I just typed a big post and its gone grr!

Anyways I have not slept for more than an hr a night for at least 11 nights.
I am physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. Being pregnant, chasing a toddler and trying to study is taking a toll on me.

Some nights i feel like im in a state of semi sleep, where my body has given up but my mind is still awake, I can hear what's happening and still process.

Even opportunities where I can sleep (today my mil Took dd so I could sleep) but I slept 40mins.

I am not a stranger to insomnia I have battled it all my life. I used to smoke weed but I had control issues and became addicted and 2 yrs ago I quit.

Even if I could take a pregnancy safe sleeping pill I don't want to because dd sometimes co-sleeps (if she wakes she comes and cuddles up to me and sleeps like an angel) and I worry for her safety.

I have tried baths, exercise, am allergic to lavendar and am skeptical of chamomile tea during first trimester. All my old tricks are failing me.

I am scared for my health and in particular my mental health as I have bipolar type II and insomnia is one of my mania triggers. I have been able to prevent my manic episodes for about 4 years but I feel myself slipping.

I have made a psych appt for a week (earliest I could get- I haven't needed an appt for years!) but I need Help before then.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Have you tried Melatonin?
Every doc is different, but my OB suggested it when I was pregnant, and although it didn't knock me out or anything, it definitely helped push me out of that 'half sleep' state you described and into unconsciousness.

I have not previously taken it. I have usually avoided any pharmacotherapy treatments as I have an addictive nature and become addicted quite easily. I am alsonervous about anything of a sedative nature with dd co sleeping but I was talking to dh and he is scared for me and said he'd sleep elsewhere for a night or two and take dd so I can sleep.

I am also getting conflicting info about how safe it is during pregnancy. I may need to contact my dr.

Thanks for the response tho, it's appreciated xx

I don't understand how it's not safe considering your body produces it naturally in the first place. If you increase your consumption of Vitamin D and the necessary sunlight for processing it, you'll also increase the amount of melatonin your body makes naturally.
