I went back to work in November and was pumping about what the baby eats every day. I have a good back up stash and pump some on the weekends.
Anyways, the baby eats a lot at day care (24 oz / day) and I have been struggling to make 15-18 for the last almost month. At first I thought it was because my period came back but then it never really rebounded.

I'm still doing ok on my stash, but I need to make it 5 more months. I started taking fenugreek but I am not sure how much and how often I should be taking it.

What did you do if you needed to take it?

I took 3 pills, 3 times a day and it made my supply shoot through the roof. I had supply issues at first too and I found that I had to drink a 16-oz bottle of water in between each feeding (every 3 hours) to help keep it up.

Thanks, any particular time of the day to take the pills? I bought two bottles so I could leave one at home and have one at work...

I kept one in my desk too! I always took them morning, afternoon, and evening. Oh, and give it a few days - it took a few days for it to kick in. :)

What they said. Start with 3 pills 3x a day. Then see If you smell like syrup. If you do that's good. If you dont then Up It a little. If you make waaaay too much you can go down a little.

Things To watch out for: bright green poop. Fenugreek has a tendency to oversupply foremilk. If this happens you may need to back off the fenugreek some or pump out some foremilk and label it as foremilk so you don't send two foremilk only bottles in the same day or one feeding right after another. Also fenugreek poses the risk of dehydrating you, this hurting your supply more than helping it because fenugreek is designed to pull the water from your body for milk. So drink plenty of water. If you don't notice it helping your supply you may need more water. These are two things that happened to me when I used fenugreek. At first I overproduced foremilk an then I wasn't drinkin enough water and it dehydrated me. It was a difficult time and very stressful and I would hate for someone to experience that. Especially since pumping is hard enough as It is!!! So you are doing great keeping up with LO!!! Not much longer :)

Yep. I think I ended up with 4 pills, 3 times a day. But start with three. I also combined it with blessed thistle which helped a TON.

thank you!
I feel like I have been more thirsty than usual since I started, but I haven't been taking them consistently. I need to get better at it.

also, my milk has had a greenish tint to it since I started... this explains that!

I started taking fenugreek 2 days ago, my daughter is only 3 weeks but I can't seem to keep up with feeding her. I've been taking 4-6 pills a day I think they are each 600 something mgs. I could up it I'm sure but even in two days I've noticed an increase, I'll wake up with hard sore b**bs which is haven't been before taking it. Also through out the day I'll get engorged again and I'm able to pump a lot more than before already.

Wish I had know this before I gave up and started giving formula. Can you use it to bring back your milk once it has stopped? Or nearly stopped? And is it prescribed or over the counter?

Did my own research and not sure it will help bring my milk back, but hoping since it isnt quite gone yet. But also read that it can help those that have diabetes by lowering their glucose levels. This by itself has me interested since I have type 2 diabetes. Think Ill ask my doctor about it and possibly give it a try. :D

You can definitely do it. I got mine at gnc. But I'm sure it's other places. If you across up a few posts "grace life" had a link to her relactation thread on her profile.

Why do you think you aren't keeping up? It's completely normal for nbs to nurse constantly and seem to never get enough. They're boosting your supply and attempting to regulate it. And at 3 weeks especially since that's usually their first growth spurt.
