breastfeeding AND on BC...likelihood of being pregnant? loving little luna 1 child; Stavanger, Norway 835 posts

I posted about this yesterday but only got one response.

I'm 12 weeks PP.
I breastfeed.
I started BC at 6 weeks PP and it caused me to have a period exactly like before I was pregnant.
I just had sex for the first time on march 11th (7 days before my period is due)

My last period started February 18 which means my period should have started yesterday.

What are the chances I'm pregnant? It's not possible to get pregnant a week before a period...is it?

I'm having ALL the same symptoms I had with my last pregnancy at 1 week when I didnt know I was pregnant.

if there's a possibility...when would I be able to test?

I know that it is very possible to get pregnant before your period.. I ovulate on week three, not week two. I would test next week if you think you could be though

If you've been consistent with your BC I wouldn't stress it too much. I wouldn't not count on your period being consistent because of the BC and because your are BFing.
If you could get pregnant I would test about 2 weeks after the sex. I would be doubtful of you actually being pregnant. What kind of bc are you on?

When I started my BC right after having my first baby it made me have a period but I didn't have another one until after I was done breastfeeding. Our cycles can be totally out of whack after having a baby. If you're going to test then its best to wait at least 2 weeks after the said sex.

I've got my period at 6 weeks pp. it is always consistently late. Don't stress to much about it. Also about a week before I actually get it I get pregnancy symptoms. Maybe af is on it's way? I'd test again 2 weeks after the day you had sex if af is still a no show. Good luck!

I would say that chances of pregnancy are very, very low.

If you are pregnant, you should be able to get a positive pregnancy test within 3 weeks of sex, I wouldn't test until at least two weeks after sex (sperm can live for 5 days or so and you generally ovulate 10 - 16 days before your next period).

What birth control are you on? I was on the minipill (I don't remember which one) and I didn't bleed at all. I didn't get my period until 23 months postpartum because I was breastfeeding (I only took birth control for months 4 - 8 or so, I had too many side effects). Many women find that while nursing, they don't have periods or will have a period one month and then not for many months after that.

my doctor put me on a pill for 3 months. I'm not sure what it has/doesn't have but I know it's the same thing as a IUD but just in pill form. she wants me to finish the 3 month supply to see if I like it first so I don't end up wasting money on the iud Just to have a bad reaction to it.

Some people can have side effects similar to being pregnant, I know I do with the implanon. I wouldn't count on breastfeeding as being the best birth control but if you have been taking your BC everyday and haven't missed any pills I wouldn't worry too much. Take a test in another week or so, just so you can ease your mind. I don't really think you have anything to worry about.

I take my birth control RELIGIOUSLY. I have an alarm set on my iPod lol

I sure hope I'm not. that would mean I'd have a baby around the time LO turns one :/
