Surgery changes poop? Leah+2 2 kids; Texas 5797 posts

My son had surgery three weeks ago to get his tonsils and adenoids removed. He was then constipated until the 3rd (surgery was on the 25th) anyway, his poop is so different now. He used to be a once a day kid and it stunk but no more than regular poop. However, now he goes every other day or so. And it's not the normal color (it ranges from green/brown to DARK brown) which in itself isn't out of normal but for him it is. Also, it STINKS bad and is never formed anymore. Very mushy but not diarrhea. He also complains of a pain occasionally (like once a day) about an inch below his belly button off to the side.

Should I take him to the doctor? If so, which one? His pediatrician or the ENT who did the surgery?

Is he on any medication?
Usually surgery itself will not do that

This.

Any antibiotics? They will change the smell and consistency of poop.

Dietary changes (I'm assuming he had to eat soft foods and such), antibiotics, pain medications, and changes in activity level can alter poo color and consistency

Nope. No meds for over a week now. He had antibiotics and tylenol with codeine. Then I took him off that when he was ready to regular tylenol. Antibiotics were only for 5 days after surgery.

Was he on any antibiotics before the surgery?

He had a round of antibiotics in January. Then had surgery the 25th of February and had antibiotics for 5 days after that. But that's all.
