Posting for a friend.

Alternatives to getting tubes put in your childs ears?
Are there any?
My child is 8 months old and is currently on his FIFTH ear infections. He's taken
4 different antibiotics and is repeating one now for this currrent ear infection.
The docs are going to talk about setting up a procedure to put tubes in his ears
after he is finished with this round of antibiotics.
Every time he gets ear infections, he is miserable, he runs a fever, he groans non-stop
in pain, he's not the same happy, calm little boy he is when he doesn't have an infection.
I miss my little man

Quoting Red Bottom:" My sons stopped when he turned 2."

stopped getting ear infections?
My anguish is the fact he has had 5 already, and he's only 8 months old. I really don't want him to be in pain any more :(

Yep. My son was like that. I'd rather have waited it out than risk anesthesia.

This will be a odd question, but does anyone smoke around the infant? The cigarette smoke can cause the ear infections to continue reoccurring.

Yea, that's what I was told, but she's freaking me out, even more then I am already freaking out knowing my child has to have this done..and when she told me he could die from the anesthesia, I was taken aback!

No, nobody smokes in my house, nor around my kids.
The docs and nurses ask me that question every time he has to be seen for an ear infection.

I used to work for a chiropractor and he would drain my daughter's after she started antibiotics. It's kind of gross though because it drains down the throat.
My daughter had at least 9 the year I decided to get her tubes put in. It was the best decision I made. There are always risks, but since getting them in when she was 2, she hasn't really been sick at all. The procedure takes literally 10 minutes from the time they sit you down in the waiting area to them telling you it went well. I don't know of any alternatives.

Quoting Just Ames:" Anyone has a chance of dying with anesthesia. In fact, that was my biggest concern when my Son had tubes ... [snip!] ... do you want to take that extremely small risk? I guess as a parent you need to look at the benefits and if it's worth the risk."

Thank you!!!! Very good points!

Oh, and just in case anybody was wondering, i had a friend post this for me because I didn't want it in my thread feed on my page because I have issues with somebody hopping on my page quite often, and I don't want that person knowing what is going on with my kids.

its much better to get them done than to wait it out, it can cause permanent damage and even rupture of their ear drums and its very PAINFUL to get ear infections. my mom kept putting mine off, i never grew out of it, and had to get it done at 7. i have permanent hearing loss in both ears due to it, and remember all the pain that the ear infections caused. i used to throw up the pain was so bad. i wish she would have done it when i was a toddler.

We held out on tubes as long as possible, but by 26 months I couldn't take putting me son on yet another antibiotic. I'm so glad we did tues, he's been an entirely different child since.
Though we found out my sons ear infections were caused because his adenoids were so inflamed and blocking the air flow causing infections to keep layering. He also had his adenoids removed.

My son had tubes twice and I can't imaging letting him suffer with the constant infections. Both surgeries were super fast and he had immediate relief and regained his hearing.
