"Yes, this could be implantation spotting at 17 days after ovulation. In a study by Wilcox, et al, in 1999, implantation could range between 6 and 18 days after ovulation. However, most occurred between 8 and 10 days after ovulation, and the risk of pregnancy loss increased for the delayed implantations. The pregnancy tests before implantation are typically negative, so it was wise of your doctor to recommend rechecking in a week"

and there was a couple more links but i cant find them atm.

as for implantation at 4dpo, just do some googling an youll find stuff. it takes 2-3 after fertilization to travel down fallopian tubes, so it isnt impossible to implant at 4dpo

It is impossible. In order to begin the implantation process an embryo has to first pass through several stages. On the first day the egg is fertilized by the sperm. By the second day there are 2-4 cells and by the 3rd day there are 8-10. It doesn't become a blastocyst until it's almost 100 cells which usually occurs by the 5th day but sometimes can happen in four. It then takes at least another day to hatch before it can even begin the implantation process.
