If it hasn't been proven then, they shouldn't be subjected to such harsh punishment. I completely agree with you on that. (No arguments from me there). But, I do think those who have been PROVEN to have killed, raped etc... Should definitely have to face it.. (Minus the heat of course).

I also heard that he makes his prisoners pay for their meals. (I think it was like .40 cents a day.. Or something like that ?

I can't stand Arpaio. I just feel like there is evil inside of him.

I think he is extremely racist when it comes to illegal immigration. I am sure the majority does and his die hard followers embrace it.

I honestly think he has good tactic with making criminals not want to come back but, I do disagree that most of the tent city inmates are actually still awaiting trial. The tent city should be reserved for people who have been proven guilty of terrible crimes. (My opinion, of course)

If every prison in this country was even 1/2 as harsh as this one though, I think (I have nothing to support this thought) we would have less repeat offenders.

I don't think committing a crime means you should be denied basic human rights. But I'm also a fan of Finland's rehabilitation- focused incarceration. They treat their prisoners very well and have boththe lowest incarceration AND lowest recurrence rate in Europe.

He disgusts me. I think he's worse than a majority of his inmates.

So.. They actually try to rehabilitate their criminals? (I just want to make sure I comprehended what you said correctly).

Is it terrible that I have never heard of that?

I think making jail living harsher just makes it harder for them to function in society again, leading them to intentionally commit crimes to go back to the society they know how to function in. Which is a concept that's been brought up by repeat offenders MANY times.

He is awful. It will be a happy day when he is no longer sheriff. Hopefully a decent human being will be the next to take over.

This is a brief article summing the system up fairly well

You definitely have my attention.

I guess I got so use to the harsher punishment thing that I never considered alternatives.

I like they way you're going with this. To be honest with the whole Tent City jail, I only ever heard of the harsh punishment. Not the neglectful part though. The neglect of sexual assault thing is what isn't sitting well with me right now. During the reading it mentioned how just about all of the neglected cases were about children whose parents were actually here illegally. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Is the place you work in state run?

Does Finland have to worry about violent street gangs in nearly every large city? What is the percentage of children who are abused? What about neglected? Not to mention all the other crimes.. Burglaries, home invasions etc.. (Can you tell I like to watch criminal shows? haha)

You don't have to give me numbers if you don't want to. It was just something I thought I would bring to light. I was mainly getting at... Is their criminal activity as frequent as it is here in the states?

I am not brushing off the rehabilitation idea, so please don't think I am. I am genuinely curious that if it does work out there... Does it work on the people who have committed crimes as serious as what people do out here? (Rape, murder, gang violence etc..)

I don't think there are any state run places in my state, could be wrong though. They are all state regulated, and the state survey is ridiculously harsh. They nitpick everything.
