DH decided he's torn on the middle name: P Pickle Pants 98 kids; California 20522 posts

We are for sure naming her (middle name) after my BFF Jennifer Renee. no debate there.

We were all set in Ainsley Renee and DH decided he doesn't like it because my sister shares that middle name. And my sister is...unsupportive and caring as a sibling, a terrible parent to her own kids (not abusive, but neglectful. It goes way beyond just difference in parenting styles), and has said awful things to me regarding my pregnancies (like my son is "better off dead than disabled" just days after my son was born and died at 23 weeks). He just doesn't want her to think we named the baby after HER. It's not that he cares they share the name, he just doesn't want my sister claiming we named Ainsley after her.

The problem with Jennifer is that all of our other kids share a family MIDDLE name. My first son shares the same middle name as his father and grandfather. My second son shared the same middle name as his grandmother (adapted for gender). So, we wanted to have Ainsley share a MIDDLE name with the person she's named after. Jenny's middle name is Renee.

Also, my husband's initials are AJ. My 1DS's initials are AJ (we didn't intend the A thing, it was just the name we loved). And Ainsley will have the A initial (again, just the name we loved and nothing else makes us happy), so I REALLY don't want a third AJ in the family. Especially since my 2DS had the initials DK, which would have broken things up well enough, but he died, so most people won't ever know him or his name. And I don't want everyone to assume the AJ is an intentional thing----because if we have another, we definitely won't be repeating it!

I can't help but like Renee better. Not simply because it's my middle name, but I think it flows better.

I say Renee but I'm biased. Every first born girl in my family has that for a middle name :)

I understand giving your child that name might send the wrong message about supporting your sisters parenting options. But is there any way to explain to him that the middle name isn't representing your sisters name but your best friends name?

**eta**
Jennifer is really pretty too. But like I said I'm biased lol

Meh, if your sister is the way she is, I doubt people would believe that you would name your daughter after her in any way! And your BFF knows the truth, so that's all that really matters. I might be biased, but I would still go with Renee...it's my middle name too!

We both agree it sounds better, but don't think Jennifer sounds bad either. Just not AS good.

I think Renee sounds better. And if your sister tries to say you named her after her, just correct her and make it known who you did name her after.

I like Renee better but just on the fact that your sister is a complete b***h I wouldnt use that name if she shares the same name to.

I agree too. And that's why I keep calling her Ainsley Renee. DH is torn too. So, I told him I'm sticking with our earlier decision unless he uses his veto card (not literal. We each have one veto of a name after we narrow it down to our final short list. I used mine on another middle name.

It is nice to see Jennifer in the middle! It is very refreshing as a middle name.

Could you explain her name's significance in a birth announcment, whichever way you go? That way it won't look like you were just jumping on the AJ wagon or bringing your sister into it.

What about a second middle name or a variant of one of the names?

Ahh, she's so far removed from your life who cares.. Just post on fb as often as possible that she's named after Jenny haha.

It's like Devins middle name being FILs middle name he's NOT named after him. FIL thinks he is but who cares, doesn't affect me any since he's seen him ONCE in his 4 years of life.

I just don't thin Jennifer flows as well and I agree on the AJs I know you were concerned about the A first name which I think is done but the AJ initials is a little much!

Just curious does your sis and Jenny spell Renee the same?
