Is that where they stick a tube down your throat with instruments or a scope inside it? If so then yes, I've done it fully awake

Its the scope. I might also have a biopsy done too.

Normally they will sedate you a bit or put you out, the reason I was awake was due to complications that prevented them from putting me out without giving me double pneumonia. I had some discomfort afterward that lasted a few days, felt like a scratchy throat

My husband has them every 3 months, he doesn't feel anything pain during the procedure and is usually fine right after. Maybe just a little throat irritation afterwards, but he can talk/drink/eat right away. Good luck!

I had one done about 6 years ago. They gave me something to relax me. You are still conscious but what they give you makes you forget all about it do you aren't actually aware of what happened. Or at least that is the type of sedation I was given. My throat felt a little scratchy for about a day afterward.

Typical cocktail is Versed and Fentanyl.

Versed is one nasty drug though.

I didn't get to ask all my questions on here last night because I was taken to the GI lab earlier than expected. I was told that the EGD increases my risk for a miscarriage. That made me a little nervous. Overall it went well. My throat is a little sore and painful. My chest hurts from the GERD. They ended up finding a hiatal hernia; that alone explains some of my other health issues. I also had a biopsy for eoe.

Is this relatively easy to correct?

I'm not sure.. this morning the doctor said we'd modify my diet and id have to take pepcid. The nurse is annoying me because she's trying to get me to drink milk and eat food. I'm suppose to be on a liquid diet. The doctor told me to be careful with the water since I've been having a hard time with it
