Have any of you had your baby WITHOUT an epidural, but WITH an IV pain medication?

If so, how was your experience with it?

I had an epi with my daughter but it wore off and I have some issues for 2ish months after. This time I am thinking about not getting anything. I have heard the iv pain meds don't really do much pain wise but just make you a bit loopy

I had iv meds before my epidural.

It made me feel high and I throw up continually. It dulled the pain though.

Iv pain meds wont do much. Why dont you want an epidural? Going natural isnt that bad if you can relax your body and say no to pitocin. Otherwise just skip the iv meds and go for epidural

I've had epidurals with both of previous pregnancies and never had any issues, but I was thinking of going for natural or only IV meds this time.

I'm sure I'll end up with an epi again for the pain, but I was just wanting to try natural or iv meds.

The meds made you throw up? Or you just throw up in labor normally? I threw up with my first a few times.

I did with my first two, went with phentynol. First time it went fine, took the edge off a little but not much. With my second baby I also had the phentynol but my labor went so fast that there was too much in her system when she was born and she wasn't breathing or have a heartbeat. They gave her narcan and she came back but I declined to ever go with IV meds again. Not saying no one else should either but just that my labors are to fast for that to be a safe option for my babies.

No, but I had iv meds fairly early on, and got the epi after several hours of the iv meds.

I still felt all the pain, I just didn't care. I was high as a kite. I would actually like to not have them at all this time. I'd rather go as long as possible on my own, then go straight to the epidural.

pitocin does make it hurt worse but if the doctor suggest it I would consider getting it. the thing about the IV meds is when you are getting close to delivery you aren't allowed to have any more. They can depress the baby's respiratory system and make them very very groggy!

I did. The IV pain meds didn't help AT ALL haha. The only thing that helped me was sitting in the hot tub they had at the hospital.

I didn't throw up until after the meds. I was in labor for awhile before I gave in and asked for relief.
