I am 33 weeks, 1 day pregnant with Baby #1. I have gestational diabetes (though well controlled), but that automatically categorizes me as having a high risk pregnancy.
I regularly have to see a specialist to monitor the baby's growth rate, and since about 18 weeks pregnant, baby boy has been measuring ahead of his due date.
He is currently measuring over 2 weeks his gestational age, but is in perfect health.
I brought it up to my doctor that I REALLY would like to naturally have the baby (vaginally) and didn't want to have a C-Section. I knew from research that women diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes are at a higher risk for having difficult deliveries and needing a C-Section, and their babies tend to be larger. I also have seen research that says that women with Gestational Diabetes risk have problems with the baby the longer they wait into the pregnancy to deliver (i.e going to or past the due date) such as having still-born's etc because the uterus ages faster.
But MY lucky baby not only has my GD working towards his size, but also genetically, both his father and I were born big babies.
My boyfriend was over 8 lbs, and I was almost 9 lbs at 2 weeks early.
MY OBGYN said that we would continue to monitor the baby's growth and if he is well enough developed, he would be willing to induce me at 38 weeks being the earliest.
As much as I would prefer induction over waiting and needing a C-Section because my baby is too big, I really wanted to go into this naturally and wait for my baby to come when HE is ready.
So I am just curious. To any of you who are ALREADY mothers, did any of you go into NATURAL labor as early at 38 weeks and it wasn't due to some sort of complication?
I know 40 weeks is the goal, but I know that a baby doesn't have to be 40 weeks to be considered full term.
So is it possible to go into natural labor 2 weeks prior to your due date, especially with your FIRST baby? I know women who have already had babies can often go into early labor.
I'd love some input!!!
LOTS of women go into labour spontaneously at 38 weeks.. sometimes at 37,36 too.. and before then unfortunately :( Though most by statistics go 'overdue' it's possible for you to go into labour on your own before you're induced. :) good luck!
I had GD and had to be induced the first time, I went overdue the second time. I had vaginal deliveries, no c-section.
Many women give birth to big babies. So, unless his shoulders are friggin huge, I don't see why you would need a c-section....
But, my good friend went into labor at 35 weeks with her first..
I had dd naturally at exactly 38 weeks! No complications at all, she was perfect and my pregnancy (and labor) was a breeze
I just had my 3rd boy on Thursday and I was 37 weeks 2 days. I had no complications or anything. He just decided to come lol.

I had GD and my son always measured ahead. My OB wanted to schedule a c section for 39 weeks because she said I wouldn't be able to give birth to him naturally due to his size. I had a ultrasound at 35 weeks that estimated him to be almost 8lbs and I went into labor on my own and had him at 37w4d and he was only 6lb6oz.
Oh that gives me hope!!! Haha I would love for him to come early and be perfectly healthy :D Crossing my fingers!

It's possible ANYTIME, that's why there are masicarriages (not that you actually go INTO labor but...) and pre-term babies...
I naturally went into labor at 39 weeks 2 days with my first.
With my first I naturally went into labor at 21 weeks, 24 weeks, and was on pills until 35 weeks.
With my second it was 22 weeks, 25 weeks and 31 weeks.
With my third it was 24 weeks. Then my water broke at 36 weeks.
So when ever your body is ready. They also said at 34 weeks DD was estimated right at 5 1/2 pounds and would get bigger. When I had her 2 weeks later she was barely 5 pounds.
