Okay well my step son is almost five years old and has had a mic-key button since he was one. For the past six months we have had nothing but trouble!
So two nights ago his button broke in the middle of the night so I changed it out.. woke up in the morning and saw that it was leaking really bad and was really loose. I actually had thought it had broken. And since that was out spare button we no longer had a spare and was forced to take him to the ER TWO AND A HALF hours away. They discovered that the button wasn't broken at all but WAY too long? Confused since it came with our shipment of other buttons that seemed to be fine. So they Changed it out with another one that still hung out.. they seemed to be very uneasy and not sure about the whole thing. I kept telling them that that wasn't right and they insisted that its suppose to be loose. (which I understand not being to tight) but its hanging out about half an inch ;/ and they sent us home like that... it wont stop leaking and you cant change the gauze enough to keep it dry. I don't know what to do I am not at all comfortable with this.. ): I will post a pic if you want

My son has a broviac his fist year - different, but I see where you're coming from

Honestly, the one thing I learned through his treatment was when it felt wrong, it was wrong!
I would question myself all the time, but when I would investigate my concerns further Id always find out I was right.

Either go back to the hospital and have someone else look at it and tell them your concerns.
Or - do you have home health care?
Or- on call Dr?
Or - can you take him to the family doctor tomorrow?

Good luck hun.

Yeah, We sat at the hospital all day yesterday.
They refused to put a smaller tube in.. now when we feed him he probably looses a forth of his food.
We have home health care and that's who we usually get his buttons from but the on call person said they have no idea what were talking about and to call back tomorrow.
Family doctor wont touch his button...
Its all way to frustrating..

Quoting SadiesG:" Yeah, We sat at the hospital all day yesterday. They refused to put a smaller tube in.. now when we feed ... [snip!] ... what were talking about and to call back tomorrow. Family doctor wont touch his button... Its all way to frustrating.. /:"

does he have a doctor at the hospital.

Is home health coming to check him tomorrow so they can get an idea of what you're talking about?

We got this taken care of :)
We called the people that handle our medical supplies, they mailed me new buttons and I put one in :)
