Advice for 9 yr old girl peeing herself Britmiester 18 kids; Tucson, Arizona 568 posts

Ok so my niece lives with us, she's been here for about 3 years. Well she comes from a rough past, she's been seeing a therapist and psychologist for the whole time. Well she will get excited it to distracted and pee herself. Like she'll be playing outside and will not want to come in and just wet her pants. How can I break this? Has anyone been through this? Other wise she's a very bright, intelligent normal 9 year old

Ask her every hour or so if she has to go.

I'm actually potty training my son right now and that's difficult enough. I've gotten to the point with her that I've bought diapers for her. And told her if it continues she's going to have to start wearing them.

Does she realize she has to go? I have a cousin who is 16 & still wets the bed & just pees sometimes through out the day. They have gone to the doctor for it & found out that sometimes their brain doesn't know that they have to go & it just happens.

That's not cool :-/ I can imagine how that makes her feel.

My little stepsister used to do this when she was younger, and nothing helped. I think she just grew out of it. Are you sure that it's because she just doesn't want to, though? Maybe it could be that she can't tell. A lot of adults deal with incontinence for various reasons, so it's not impossible that she is at 9.

How long has it been going on? Are you sure she doesnt have an infection or another medical issue?

I would hate to have to wear diapers again :(

I used to pee myself a lot as a kid. Till about 11 12. I couldn't feel when I had to go and my bladder was terrible. I would take her in to make sure before thinking it was just laziness on her part, which some kids is just laziness lol

I used to wet the bed and if my mom didn't get a bathroom for me a min after me telling her, I would pee myself. I really didn't feel it coming until it was too late a lot of the times and it was worse when I slept.
