I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant and studying to be a paramedic. I'm hoping to get a sponsorship position with St. Johns after maternity leave from my current job. They require you to be within your ideal weight range according to BMI ... I am currently about 10 kgs (22lbs) above the very top of my ideal range and 15 kgs (33lbs) above where I would be comfortable with some wiggle room. I was just wondering that since I'm in the overweight category would it be healthy for me to take (gentle) steps towards lowering towards my ideal weight OR should I simply wait until bubs is born and then go all out?

How are you eating? I would change my diet so that EVERYTHING I took in was healthy and If allowed by the doctor I would go for walks/bicycle rides and other exercise (not too much) and if I lost weight cool (as long as baby was still growing) and if I gained weight due to pregnancy not a big deal!

we are already eating healthy as SO is morbidly obese and on a HUGE diet/lifestyle change. I am doing a bit of moderate exercise (mostly walking, though I'm about to start water aerobics)

Honestly I would just keep up with that. Don't take diet pills or anything too drastic. I would say limit your exercise with doctor approval to like 1.5 hrs a day. I would just not consume ANY junk. I lose weight with my pregnancies regardless, so Im not the biggest help. I have already lost like 15 lbs and we have the same due date!

You can def lose weight while pregnant. I did with my first. I gained 10 lbs and was smaller the day I gave birth than when I got pregnant. I walked MILES everyday and I ate very healthy.

I lost 50lb during pregnancy but I was 150lb overweight anyway so had plenty to spare. I was monitored closely by my midwife and doctor and they checked continuously that even while I was losing so much weight, baby was growing and thriving.

It wasn't morning sickness or intentional. I just didn't want to eat
