My daughter is 3 days old and she roots alot . Most of the time she's hungry but at the times I know she's full , and she roots it makes me think maybe she needs to pacifier soon. I don't want her to start using her fingers as a pacifier cause I made that mistake with my 4 year old who still sucks her thumb :/

DS would comfort suck on me right away he did that so we opted for a pacifier when he was just a few hours old. It didnt stop him from taking the breast or bottle its all on your preference. We orginally didnt want bottles or pacifiers until he was atleast two weeks old but that all changed once he got here. For many reasons one of them being my body endured a bad delivery so my milk took forever to come in so we had to supplement and I didnt want to walk around with a child perminatly on my b**b.

You can't stop it. If she's a pacifier baby, she just is. She'll start thumb sucking if you withhold the pacifier.

I gave my nb her pacifier when she was full and wanted to comfort suck, then around a month and a half old she only got it at bed time and still only uses it at bed time.

My daughter never took a pacifier.. She just never wanted it and I was more than okay with that.. She's now almost 19 months and she still doesn't suck her thumb, and she never puts random things in her mouth.. The only thing she does is bite her fingers when she's teething.. Just give her a toy, probably teething one just cuz they're easier to stick in her little mouth, even if she's not interested in them yet

Quoting Carina IS HERE!:" My daughter is 3 days old and she roots alot . Most of the time she's hungry but at the times I know ... [snip!] ... want her to start using her fingers as a pacifier cause I made that mistake with my 4 year old who still sucks her thumb :/"

My son is a little over 2 weeks old... and he's been using a pacifier. He will root when he wants his pacifier. It's a saver! When he's fussy a little bit... helps him fall asleep too.
