Anyone know a lot about tracking your cycles? greenmamabecky☮ TTC since Jul 2013; 18 kids; Enfield, Connecticut 20986 posts

I've started tracking my CM and cervical height/ firmness about a week ago, I still need to get a BBT thermometer.

March 10- BD'd, spotted for a week very lightly. Dark brown colored.
March 17- spotting ended
March 18- creamy CM
March 19- creamy CM
March 20- Damp/ wet CM
March 21- Damp/ wet CM, firm cervix, BD'd
March 22- EWCM high and firm cervix
March 23- EWCM high and firm cervix
March 24- EWCM high and firm cervix (cramping bad for a few hours, thought AF was coming)
March 25- creamy CM, low and soft cervix
March 26-damp/ wet CM, high and soft cervix

When we BD'd on the 21st I tried to squeeze most of the c*m back out because we're not technically TTC yet and I hate it leaking out lol. Not sure if those 3 days of EWCM were caused by us having sex or not...I guess it could have been c*m mixed with other CM. There just was a lot of it and not a lot of c*m left, and I didn't think it would just chill in there for 3 days lol

Any ideas? I'm trying to catch my first PP ovulation. 7 1/2 weeks PP
Any tips? Comments? Cliff notes?
I don't want to take any OPKs unless I really really think I'm Oing.

There are some really helpful apps, and pages that are useful for tracking ovulation and also if you're going to chart your temp there are charts you can print out or do online. When I was charting, temping and checking my cervix when we were TTC I used fertility friend online. It allowed me to chart my temp and pin pointed where I ovulated. You can add in also what your cervix felt like during that day.

Yeah I have an app called OvuView it's the app from Fertility Friend. Only problem is that I don't have any past periods to put in so it's telling me I'm on day 50 something lol which is from when I put in my PP bleeding. There's nowhere to dd "gave birth" lol
I've read trying to catch your first PP period is almost completely on CM and cervix because your temps are all messed up from hormones and obviously you have no periods to go on.

I think I'm going to take an opk today just to see what it looks like. Do you need to use fmu?

Leftover semen and EWCM are VERY similar.
Being that your cervix never opened up you may not have ovulated yet.
A way to tell the difference is semen normally cloudy and not very stretchy plus almost in globes whereas EWCM is very clear VERY stretchy. Just like raw egg whites.
Fertility friend has a GREAT tutorial they send to your email or you can peruse their FAQ section. It is soooo helpful in seeing what things are "supposed" to do with the cycles and how hormones dictate your cycle. Also only checking CP for a week is hard to get a clear idea of what's happening. It can take a month or 2 to realize a pattern in your cycle.

Well I'm like permanently dilated to 1cm which I guess is normal after having kids. So I wasn't sure if it would open even more, or if I should just ignore that aspect lol

I know it can take a while I'm just excited haha. Oh yeah and it wasn't cloudy it was very clear but had solid white (like a cooked egg white) streaks in it. And it stretched about an inch between my fingers.

From personal experience the streaks of white were more from semen than ewcm.
But the open/closed that just takes some time to see what its like for you. Your cervix will also seem a bit more open after sex.
I've given birth to 2 kids and if I'm not ovulating it's really obvious it's in the closed staged. If I am ovulating then I can easily fit a finger in the opening. It's a dramatic difference. Also are you only checking once a day at the same time (cp)? I would do it in the morning after going #2 (since you push down on the pelvic floor it makes the cervix easier to reach). Then when it would start to open I'd know ovulation was coming because it would be OOOPPPEEENN open for a 2 straight days no matter when I checked lol.

Ok thanks :)
Yes I check in the morning.
I'm going to check out the FAQ section of fertility friend too.

You're welcome. I love FF. It was so helpful learning what the heck all this stuff means and how it happens and what not lol

Are you TTC? If not, not a good idea to do it so close near your fertile moments... esp after having a baby you need to find out what your BIP is (basic infertile pattern). You check that by NOT having sex for a whole cycle because than it will give you two weeks to check your BIP. If it's dry completely only have unprotected sex those times... if it's creamy as your BIP than your fine having unprotected sex those days. Also women who just had a baby ovulate before they get their periods... so even if AF isn't near there is still a chance of ovulation. I suggest giving your body a break before TTC after the placenta abruption it would be the best so that you can make sure your next pregnancy can come out healthy and full term, your body went through a lot. Since you have a newborn at your house and your sleeping schedule is off I wouldn't recommend doing temps because they will be so off it wouldn't be accurate and... you need at least three consecutive hours of sleep. So just do the Billings Ovulation Method, which you only need to check your CM to see if your fertile or not.

Ive been tracjing cycles for a while now. I like knowing my body!!

No, not TTC but not preventing either. OB said wait at least 2 months before getting pregnnt again and it's been that so I feel safe. We were planning on waiting until August but we just want another baby so bad!
Anyway, I want to start tracking because I want to be completely ready to actively TTC by the time August comes, and because I think it's cool to know. I've never even kept track of my periods and all 3 times I've gotten pregnant I've had no idea when my last period was or when I actually conceived. It'll be cool to have that memory..lol

I know you ovulate before AF lol that's why I'm checking CM because I'd like to catch that first egg just to know it came and went :)
And my son actually sleeps GREAT! He sleeps like 6-7 hrs straight at night.

I took an opk 11 days ago and it was VERY dark like just a tiny bit lighter than control line. Yesterday took one and there was nothing there. Wonder what that means, if anything?

The EW your having isn't from semen it's the real thing... I had EW for 7days straight because I was extremely fertile after the baby. To me I just avoid it in total or use condoms but if your waiting til August I would recommend avoiding as well. Temps can be the hardest to learn which is easier learning BOM first and than FAM. Tour suppose to practice temps for the first month before actually taking temps into your real cycle. NTNP is still TTC which is the reason your in the TTC forum.

The lutenizing hormones (whicj opks measure) is always some what present if your system. The key is to see a surge because lh is the last to surge before ovulation. So you can go from sari line to nonlinear to positive. Doesnt have to gradually get darker either. Also make sure to take the opks in the afternoon because that is when the lh builds and is present. If you use flu its concentrated and not accurate.
