We ripped up 5 rooms of carpet when we bought this house, and our two kids (2 1/2 and 3 1/2 at the time) were here when we did it all. We've also redone our bedroom floor and entirely remodeled our bathroom with them here. I don't see a problem as long as there is someone watching them the entire time to keep them out of the way and from touching things they shouldn't.

Thanks ladies.
I think we'll definitely get it out of the way this weekend.

Were actually in the process right now of ripping the whole house up. Just be prepared to sweep, sweep, sweep...and sweep more lol. And the nails and staples...ugh. Were painting the wood underneath so we have sanding and gap filling too.

Good thing we have two brooms! LOL

My grandma is going to put laminate in after we're gone.
Okay grandma, spend thousands of dollars on laminate vs. letting us just steam clean the shit out of them, haha.
They're not even THAT dirty. But, they've only been deep cleaned a handful of times since we moved in when I was a kid.

Oh yeah. I'd probably get some of those little masks just in case and get a box fan to help with the dust removal.

Do you think it would ruin our vacuum if we used it before sweeping?

Hmm. I wouldn't think so. Just make sure to clean the filter real well before and after.

Yeah it's just a small stick vac. I figured it might help cut down on the dust swirling all over the place.

Yeah. I don't see why not. And just keep the ceiling fan off so it doesn't circulate up there. Haha

Luckily we don't have a ceiling fan down here.
Or a ceiling fixture for that matter :? It sucks.

Growing up my house was always in some state of renovation! It's not neglectful at all :-)

Whoever built this house is an idiot. The baseboards are completely uneven around every floor so that's why we couldn't put padding underneath.
There are random light switches that don't turn anything on.
We have a good sized living room with no ceiling fixture for a light, so we had to jerry rig one into a stud in the ceiling and run a chain w/ a chord down to an outlet on the wall :P

The stairs are designed w/ 2 landings that turn when you walk up them, so you can't move any exceptionally large furniture or a bed larger than a queen upstairs. It's ridiculous.
Yes, we CANNOT wait to get out of here :P

Ours is funk nasty. We live in a mobile home that was built in 1982...and I think the only person to ever clean this carpet was me when it was put in my name, because I KNOW my parents never did and we owned it for years. The steam cleaner....it looked like black coffee after like 5 times over...that's when we decided the carpet had to go!

Oh damn.
Yeah carpet is such a pain in the ass. I love hardwood floors, but I'm just worried about scratching them.
