Quoting Jennybananna:" That s***s. I would do condoms and the pill before I ever did mirena again though. It might work for ... [snip!] ... and let your SO or someone close know too. I wish someone would of told me how bad I was before I realized how bad it was. "I can't use most pills. I had bad side effects with all the ones I've tried. I already have horrible acne and it made my skin so bad it would bleed. My hair was falling out like crazy. it was horrible. so the pill is a big no-no.

Quoting 2+ Courtney:" After debating weather or not I wanted to be on BC after having baby #2, I have decided to try the mirena ... [snip!] ... research online about it also. Also, could you tell me about the procedure having it put in place? (like how it went for you)"
Oh for the love of cheese, don't do it! Some men complain about feeling it, granted you don't always get a period but when you remove it, gahhhh...you bleed and clot, then bleed and clot some more. I didn't mind having it. I did gain weight, but hey no baby. ;)

I had mine for 7 months and hated it! The insertion was terrible your uterus contracts. After having terrible mood swings, heavy bleeding and bad acne breakouts I begged the dr to take it out they checked the strings double checked my stings reassured me It was in place prescribed me bc pills to try and help with my issues after a month I couldn't take it a anymore and told them to take it out well when they went to remove it , it would not come out pulled all the strings off trying to get it out. I winded up having to get laparoscopic surgery to remove it bc it embedded in my pelvis. I would not recommend it to anyone especially since they say feeling the strings tells you it's and place and mine where the whole time and infact it wasn't there is no sure way to tell unless they do an X-ray.

Everyone is different and the only way to know if it's right for YOU is to get it! I have had it almost a year and a half now and I have had no issues at all! My period stopped about 5 or 6 months after getting it in. My SO did feel it in the beginning during sex and that almost made me get rid of it but I think the strings are higher up now and he has no complaints. I haven't gained any weight with it in...I work out and eat right and I've been able to lose 15 lbs recently! I'm getting mine out soon though because we'll be trying for another baby, but I'll be getting it back after my last baby! The procedure was quick and only a little uncomfortable. My OB described the pain to be that of an IV going in and that's just what it felt like.

I have the paragard, which is basically the same thing...The procedure took about 2 minutes or less. I felt a little bit of cramping but nothing unbearable, I had horrible cramping from my belly button to my knees for 2 days afterwards, and now I don't even notice it's there.
