How long did you take off?

I'm taking eight weeks this time (:
With Harley I took 10 and with Oliver I took 3.
3 was definately not long enough!

With my daughter, I had 12 months but I only took 5 months.

If I get pregnant again, I will take 6 months, then return to work part time or work from home.

Because its the right thing to do. We are one of the only countries without a decent maternity leave policy.

It's mandated by the Federal Government.

As long as you meet the requirements (certain number of hours worked prior to the start of your Mat. Leave), you qualify to receive 60% of your income up to $432 per week for 12 months.

It can also be split between both parents, and can be used for adoptive parents as well.

Everyone who works pays into an employment insurance fund and once you've worked at least 600 hours (in most provinces) you are entitled to collect for a certain number of months depending on a variety of factors. One of the reasons to be allow to collect is for having a baby.

That's really nice! I wish the US did that. Last year at open enrollment I turned down short term disability. I'm kicking myself in the ass now.
