thank you for all the advice and sorry for being confusing in previous posts. im just not usually comfortable flat out saying that i have really bad depression problems and need to get back on meds. i'll definitely keep an eye out for signs of mastitis, i had never even heard of it until now.

yes you will get fever n all because its an infection! you will know. if it happens just call in to your OB and they will give you antibiotics.

You shouldn't have to explain why you choose to stop breast feeding. It's no one's business. As long as your baby is being fed, that's all that matters :)

And yes, mastitis sucks! It's basically old milk that sits in your breast and it becomes infected. Without clearing it up, it can cause a whole lot of problems. If you notice your breast(s) becoming painful (not like engorgement sore) and red, warm to the touch and accompanied with flu like symptoms, get your butt to a doctor. It comes on very fast and it was the worst sick I've ever had.

I only had it once with DS. It started with a sore b**b, stiff neck and a slight headache in the morning. Then later in the day I felt tired, so I laid down for a nap (summing it up to having a 9 week old baby) Woke up with the WORST headache, fevered, shaking, nauseated, dizzy, b**b felt like it was on fire. Then I remembered learning about mastitis in my prenatal class. So I just nursed as much as DS would let me and kept hydrated. By the next morning, I was feeling better, but my b**b was still sore and a bit red. Went to a doctor anyway, and he didn't want to give me meds because of the risk of thrush (and because I was already feeling better). I was amazed at how sick I got in such little time, and how fast it went away (because of nursing)

Don't listen to the people who are making you feel bad for stopping.

I had to stop at 4 months for my own reasons and I felt horrible, having all these women throwing guilt on you down't make it any better. In fact them doing that to me made me want another baby just to redeem myself and that would have been awful.

I just hand expressed in the shower if I felt engorged and it eventually dwindled down. (Not that I had much to begin with)
