My little girl is 13 days old. She just woke up from her nap for her usual feeding and she's got a green yellow discharge all over her right eye. Her eye wasn't sealed shut or anything and it's not red around or red in her eye as far as I can tell. And it doesn't seem to be bothering her. I wiped it away with a warm washcloth but is this something that can be normal in newborns or does it sound like pink eye is starting to set in?

Quoting ashelyn & autumn:" My little girl is 13 days old. She just woke up from her nap for her usual feeding and she's got a green ... [snip!] ... a warm washcloth but is this something that can be normal in newborns or does it sound like pink eye is starting to set in?"

Sounds like a clogged tear duct and it is very common. Watch for redness or the area being warm to the touch which would indicate an infection but they usually don't get infected.

Just do warm compresses, and wipe clean with warm water often :) and you can use breastmilk on the area. I hope it clears up for your little lady soon!

Yep...clogged tear ducts are very common in infants. My youngest had one and it didn't clear up until her first birthday.
