Tested positive for amnotic leak Trina Tadlock Due July 27 (boy); Denton, Texas 76 posts

Went to L/D after started leaking and my doctor said to go. They did the stick test and it was a dark blue. However, when they did a sonogram the baby was okay and was moving around a lot with a heart beat of 155 it had a adequate amount of fluid. I am still leaking a bit but because i was not gushing and the baby still had 11 in amnotic fluid they sent be home and told me what to look for. He did not do a cervic check because he did not want to poke around down there incase of irritating the area. I am only 22 weeks and this is scaring me to death. I do not want to lose my LO. Has anyone had this happen. Also, is it odd that my doctor would send me home without examining me? He told me it could be a false positive. Just feel like I am the only one that cares I am leaking fluid or maybe I am just over emotional.

Let's see we're due around the same time but I would think that he should have checked you. I say if things don't feel right after so many hours go back to the doctors and have them check again. I don't blame you for being worried.

I would be worried about an infection. If you're not satisfied with his response go back to the hospital and demand to be seen again. I'm not sure if they can do anything to stop the leak.. hopefully it stops on its own and baby bean keeps baking for a while yet! Good luck momma

Well there's honestly nothing they can do. For one at 22 weeks there's like a slim to none chance of survival. And for two unless you go into labor or your water full blown breaks or you leak enough to have low fluid there's not anything they can do. I'm sure they'll be watching you for signs of infection. I would just put yourself on strict bed rest and do pretty much nothing. Good luck. I hope you can hold out!!

No, it's not odd that he wouldn't do a cervical check. Especially if you had an ultrasound. It's not odd because since your fluid is leaking you have a HIGH risk of infection. If you develop an infection you will have to deliver the baby ASAP. So really, it's not surprising at all. During the ultrasound they would have measured your cervix. This is somewhat more accurate prediction than you getting fingered by your doctor and much safer considering the risk of infection.

When I was 33 weeks pregnant my water started leaking. Test came back positive and at the time I had plenty of fluid and wasn't contracting. So my doctor put me on strict bedrest with a non stress test every other week. I was able to hold baby in until 38 weeks. So I wouldn't worry I would just be cautious.

I had the same thing happen at 21 weeks. My doc also did an ultrasound and there was still plenty of fluid around her so I was also sent home. He didn't check me either due to risk of infection. Iwas out on bed rest for a month minimum depending on whether or not I leaked anymore and how much if I did. I was lucky enough that mine resealed and I made it to 39 weeks. Just be cautious and take it as easy as you can.

Its good to know I am not alone on this. I am just really freaked out. The good news is I have seem to dropped off on leaking. I still feel a small trickle ever know and then but I have had a pad on for 3 hours and it doesnt have much liquid in it at all, if any really. Thanks. I think I am just over reacting but its really scary.

I had the exact same thing happen to me at 22 weeks I was scared to death as I also tested positive. I had soaked my pants their bed everything, my body was even doing funky things. The doctor did not check my cervics as for infection and it can pit you into labour with nothing to due, but pray to the good Lord above. It ended up being my urine that was the culprate as for some reason I had alkiline in it which is what they test for when your water breaks. Hang in there hun and take it easy. I was told not to lift over 5lbs and to take it easy as I have been having contractions since 16 weeks and am 27 weeks pregnant today.

See that is interesting because I was there for like 5 hours and laid on a pad and there was hardly any, I am not even sure there was any, on the pad. I feel litytle trinkles every now and then but I have been wearing a pad and it doesnt seem to ever be soak just kind of damp if anything and when I go to pee I check myself and it does not seem I am dripping any extra fluid. I am of course praying to the lord but I am also hopeful that it was a false positive or at the very least the leak is very small and it can be controlled.

It's good that he didn't check you as he could introduce infection unnecessarily but he should have put you on a round of IV fluids or instructed you to drink a crap load of water as well as discussing the option of antibiotics with you. I would also want to ask about steroids but it may be too early just yet for those, I don't know.

any number of things can temporarily block the leaking and then a while later you'll get a small gush.

Went to see specialist and my fluid was from 11cm to 17cm. The specialist said the baby is fine.
