when you have the sweep do the midwife put their fingers in or their whole hand in you bits? I'm having the sweep on the 4th of April so I'm hoping my baby would be engaged by then seems that she wasn't on my scan monday.. Oh and anyone else's baby wasn't engaged at 38 weeks with their first? xx

Lol just fingers, either one or two.

My baby never engaged and I had to start pushing for ages to get him to my cervix, then had to keep pushing until he was out.

It was a very horrible and traumatising experience

It's still going to hurt like a bitch. Just be prepared. I won't let my doc do it again but I also will have a repeat c-sec though so it doesn't even apply anymore.

It shouldn't hurt if you are prepared but doing it this early isn't really going to help. 3 things can happen:

1. It works and you go into labor with no problems.

2. It doesn't work at all.

3. It "works" and causes your water to break leading you to believe that labor has started. Contractions don't start so they start you on pitocin which leads to other interventions and you are now on a time clock to deliver the baby since your water has broken.

It doesn't hurt for everyone!
I had a sweep when I was in labour cos I hadnt dilated, it didn't hurt just uncomfortable for me and I'm glad I had it cos they sent me home after they did it and was ready to come back by the time I got home 20 minutes later

my dr did it without telling me she was doing it last time. it brought tears to my eyes. i thought she was doing a regular cervix check. i was hoping for someone else to check me next time. i believe it helped me dialate tho.

Yer it worked for me, I was already in labour but I hadnt dilated at all, went the hospital and they did a sweep and sent me home, 20 minutes later my contractions became really intense so I went back to the hospital around 3 hours later and I was 4 cm dilated :)

Stretch and sweep
Stretch your cervix and sweep, try to separate your mucous plug from your cervix.
