Hey has anyone else's baby wasn't engaged at 38 weeks but engaged for 40 weeks? I had a scan monday and I was 38+4 and my baby wasn't yet engaged. Has anyone else been in this situation and the baby engaged for 40 weeks? I have a sweep arranged for the 4th April but it won't work if she's too high..

A lot of times babies don't engage until labor starts.

Can I still get the sweep if she still isn't engaged?

Are dilated at all? Why are you trying to rush this?

I was 38 almost 39 weeks when my baby engaged. She hadnt been engaged at my last scan which was 38 weeks exactly but a few days later I felt an awful lot more pressure and pelvic pain. I could barely walk and it felt like she was going to fall out any time. My doc said she had dropped then. It was also suddenly easier to breathe and the pressure was gone from my ribs. I went into labour on my own at 39 weeks 3 days and had her 2 days later. My friend had her 4th not long after my daughter was born and she said none of hers ever engaged before labour.

Well I guess I should let nature do it's job.. and did you do anything to help the baby engage?

Nope I didn't even think there was something you could do to help them to engage. I wasnt really expecting it to happen coz loads of people told me it probably wouldn't till I was in labour. I know a girl whose baby engaged at 34 weeks but she still went over 6 days before her labour started.

That's what I was wondering. Why rush labor? Baby will come when baby is ready, simple as that.

Lol, I'm not rushing anything if you read what I put.. I'm 40 weeks on thursday and will be having the sweep and I want to make sure my baby is down enough to be done.. I haven't tried anything to bring on labour I'm just trying to avoid complications.

You will avoid complications if you let things happen naturally and stay away from interventions unless medically necessary.

My midwife has told me to keep active so the baby will engage!! I was carrying a ot of excess fluids previously so that would of been the problem. Now they're at a normal level she should engage, it's my body, my baby and if I want to help things along I will so stop acting like the rest of the bitches that post ridiculous comments about me rushing things! I'm due next week! god

My second didn't engage till I went into labor at 41 weeks 3 days and I walked my butt off with her , squatted and just about everything I could think of and still she had to do it on her own. I personally would avoid any type of intervention till 42 weeks expecially if you know the baby is still high up. I bet you your baby will drop real fast and you'll have nothing to worry about . My oldest engaged around 33-34 weeks and didn't decide to come till 42 weeks ( naturally no induction) so being engaged doesn't always mean much.

she might just engage at last minute :) but if not can you still have the sweep if she's not fully engaged? x

Yes ridiculous!! Silly me for thinking that you are sooo early and that it is not normal to go past your due date.

Don't post shit on the Internet if you don't want opinions that are different from your own. Baby being engaged has nothing to do with getting your membranes stripped.
