Irritable Bowel Syndrome? TMI Minion Due September 30 (girl); 2 kids; ., GA, United States 21115 posts

In the past year or so every time I eat anything I get a horrible upset stomach that has me running to the bathroom not 30 minutes after I eat.

My poop is never "normal" anymore. It's always very soft and/or loose.

I have heard of irritable bowel syndrome, but I'm not sure if I have it or not. SO thinks it because I gained a lot (50 pounds) in the last 2 years and now it's messing with my digestion.

Does anyone have IBS and are my symptoms like yours?

I have had IBS since I was 12... but my problem is the opposite. I get constipated. So I'm no help.

I have IBS, sometimes I can't stop going and sometimes I can't go at all. My doctor put me on a pill for inflammation but I don't think it makes a difference.

My little brother has IBS, he is 20 now. I think he was diagnosed around 15 or so. Not all foods upset him, but he knows what triggers it so he stays away from it. Sounds exactly like what you described. My brother doesnt even drink, drinking makes its 10x's worse for him.

My IBS is a bit different. I don't always get stomach pains but when I do they are at random and my stomach cramps up so badly that I am throwing up from the pain of the stomach cramps. So I am having horrible diarrhea & throwing up at the same time....NOT fun.

There are a few things that can run together, so if possible seeing a Dr to narrow it down can help.

It can be IBS, which is generally the most common. It usually runs along with Fibro, depression, things like that. It can be constipation, diarrhea, or alternating which I think is the most common. I'd try keeping a food journal so you can try to pinpoint foods that trigger it.

It can be a form of IBD which is slightly different because it's inflammation. The symptoms however are very close to IBS.

It can be a food intolerance. Gluten and dairy are the big ones, and either can occur at any time, even after not having it for a long time. I didn't develop (or at least develop noticeable symptoms) of a gluten problem until after I had my 2nd child at 25. Before that I had no issues at all. For this one they can test for Celiac, but there isn't a test for intolerance. You just have to go gluten free and see if it helps.

Thanks for your response. :)

I do have depression. I noticed you mentioned it might be a link. Also a severe anxiety disorder, ADD, OCD, and Tourette's.

Yep. It links with a few mental issues. Watch out for Fibro, it is there too. I have Fibro and I think IBS (thought being gluten free helps is a LOT).
