<blockquote><b>Quoting Laura [Syltherin]:</b>" SO used to be a delivery driver and it was horrid. Out causes do much wear and tear on your car, you ... [snip!] ... minutes from Hungry Howies but we always tip at least $5, if it gets here before the expected delivery time we will tip more."</blockquote>

You got me seriously jealous right now. First, our local Hungry Howies shuts down. Ok, still have one in Pigeon Forge, where we vacation a lot. It closes 2WEEKS before our trip when I was pregnant and craving it!

I tip usually 20ish%, factoring in where it's coming from, price, if it's race weekend, if driver is nice. Delivery guys at the places I frequent make 6.25-7.50hr.

They do. I made like 5.50 an hour.

My dad fell on hard times and couldnt get work anywhere, thanks to this glorious economy. He started delivering pizzas at $4.75 an hour. If it was a bad week for tips when he got my brother on his weekend they didnt do as much fun stuff. Sucked.

We pay for our own gas, shit is expensive. What a cheapass, I hope they spit on your food.

& at least the garbage or mail lady/man make above min wage.

Quoting crazy coupon lady:" How much would you tip the delivery person on an order of 32.50? I am planning on tipping what I always ... [snip!] ... on tipping what I always do and my friend here says its way too much. So curious on what everyone else would tip for pizza."

I'd prob make it an even 40. So 7.50 I guess.

I tip 20 percent.
Our drivers make 4 something an hour and get none of the delivery fee.
They pay their own gas and maintenance fees.

My SO was a pizza delivery driver at three seperate locations, and made below minimum wage. But, he was paid $1.75 for gas for deliveries within their zone, and an extra 10% of the total cost of the order for deliveries out of their zone. Were I live, the city is pretty small and everything is center around four main roads. He would have to put $5 in gas at most to make all his deliveries. I always tip 20% though, because I used to be a waitress.

This. With the delivery fee they charge, unless it's shitty weather I don't usually tip. When someone relies on tips and makes less than minimum wage the employer must make up the difference. So yes, they rely on tips, but it's not as if they are getting paid only 3 bucks an hour. To charge a 3 dollar delivery fee to pay for gas and upkeep on the car (thats what most plaves say the delivery fee is far) is a lot when you don't even use 3 dollars in gas to get to the persons house from the store.

I will tip when the weather is crappy or its a bigger order or a delivery fee is not enforced (I dont know of any places that dont charge for a delivery fee though). But normally, I don't tip for food delivery. I really am peturbed at the whole delivery fee being charged in the first place and made me not give a damn to tip anymore!

The chinese food place near us always delivers our food piping hot, gives us extra sauce and extra appetizers for free depending on what we order. It's like a free appetizer for every 10 bucks in food you order or something like that. We tip them well because they make the effort to be fast and they do good service. But the pizza places are only making a pizza and take more than double the time and enforce that stupid delivery charge. Its almost like a forced gratuity, I don't like being forced to tip a certain amount, or have other forced expenses. Tips should be earned, not forced, especially a certain amount. Tips should be based on how the service was. Most other countries don't treat tipping the way America does to be honest.

obviously things are different here but when I worked for Dominos I got to drive a company car (as did most of the drivers)
