Working moms who take kids to daycare/sitter...
What is your morning routine like? How long are you up before your kids are up? How much time do you give your kids to get dressed and ready?

I am teacher. DD (3yo in May) and I need to leave the house at 6:30am. (It will only be earlier when baby #2 arrives.) Therefore most days I am waking her up. She is in bed and asleep by 7:30 the latest on school nights. Now that she is almost 3 - she doesn't want to wake up, is throwing temper tantrums and attempting to kick me. We are simply getting dressed, using the potty, brushing teeth and getting out the door.

My 3 year old is a nightmare unless she gets at least 12 hours. Can you put her to bed earlier?

I work the night shift (7p-7a), so my DH takes my daughter to my mom's in the morning, since he has to be at work before I get off. I usually get home around 8, sleep for a few hours, pick up LO, then repeat.

So, I don't know how she acts in the early morning.

I wake up around 6:45 am and get ready. Around 7:30, I get my 4 year old up. We leave the house by 8:15. I drop him off at daycare, then go on my way.

Putting her to bed earlier would mean less family time. Most days we are home about 4:30. Eat at 5. Bath 5:30. Family play time. Bed & book 6:30. She will then play alone for a bit in her room before bed. I feel guilty putting her to bed without spending much time with her.

Does your child eat breakfast at home? Just curious if 45 minutes is just waking up/getting ready time.

It sucks but if she needs more sleep to get through the morning then you gotta do what you gotta do. Maybe try it and see if it helps any?

My 4y/o can be a monster in the morning, too. I have to wake him up at least 45 minutes before we have to leave or we're not getting out the door in time. Our mornings have gone significantly more smoothly since I let him keep a more leisurely pace in the mornings and of course make choices. I wake him up, he wants to lay in bed a few more minutes, I let him. I pretend to make the bed with him in it and he thinks it's hilarious. He gets up and watches cartoons on the couch (still laying down, sleepy). I ask which he wants first, breakfast or to get dressed. What does he want for breakfast, two choices. Etc.

Anywhere in there if he asks for five more minutes, etc. of cartoons, having the extra time allows me to say yes. He has some freedom and I have peace. :D

She probably needs more sleep. My 5 year old is asleep by 8pm and he wakes up by 6:15. I'm awake by 5:45, to be out by or before 7:15. Sometimes DS is tired so I try to have him in bed by 7:30.

We wake up around 7:30 and they eat breakfast & watch cartoons while I take my shower and get dressed, then I get them dressed and we leave.
