People are judged EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. by the names their parents saddle them with. Im sure your kid will be worth the time to think through a name that will not give peole "ideas" about them before getting to know them.

Yes, you can. And that's what happens due to "being African-American and we like our children to have unique and creative names." You said it yourself.

Name your child that and people will assume she is ghetto.

Wow..My daughter is mixed, her father is African American and never,I mean NEVER has ANYONE in his family EVER suggested any ghetto as names, then blame it on their race! Smh..they want her to become something of herself and beat the statistics. We have come up with names that aren't so popular in the area and so far have settled with Leila/Layla. My first two sons have a different father and their names are Ian and Isaiah...we can't be throwing no Shaniqua La'Terella in the mix. Your childs name can very well reflex on what people think...especially when pulling applications ...they are more likely to actually look at a "Aubrey's" resume then a "Ne'Veya's". Just a thought!

Right!!! If you want her name to be Nevaeh just keep the spelling like that, if you want it to be different and unique just go for another name. no matter how you spell it its pronounced the same and you hear Nevaeh Quite often. All African Americans don't have "ghetto" names. Mine is Savannah.
