Maybe they didn't know she was out of lunch money

Right, prisoners get fed, but not schoolkids? Wow. And to just throw the food in the trash...I mean...

If it were my kid's school I would be there throwing an absolute fit.

Yeah because throwing it in the garbage isn't a waste of money?? WTF.

That is something that should be mentioned to like the school social worker or something but not to completely deny the kids of food. I agree that this worker should be fired. I went negative in my accounts many times waiting for my mom's next paycheck but I was never once denied lunch.

that is true. i feed my son breakfast before school because i cant afford breakfast and lunch. its about $50 a month for just lunch. its steep and basically since we live with my in laws we dont qualify for reduced or free. which is ok because DH just started a new job and gets disability from the VA, but still its not so expensive that the school would actually lose money if they paid

True..but didn't it say that they were behind? I guess I just assumed they were behind quite a bit and that is why it happened. I don't know. Either way, definitely wrong to deny the poor kids food.

I didn't read the article so idk how old these kids were but when I was in HS if you didn't have money on your account you didn't get lunch. They checked it before you got your lunch tray. I think throwing away their food is a little ridiculous and they could've gave them something to eat like they said they're supposed to. But in the end it's the parents responsibility to give the children lunch money and they are at fault for not giving it to them and/or making sure they had it. If there's an issue with the parents not giving their child money and they don't get free lunch the school thn needs to investigate and make sure the child eats that's their responsibility.

I think it's horrible. I've been that kid denied food at lunch. My stepdad made to much for us to qualify for free lunch but my moms horrible at budgeting so we couldn't afford hot lunches and never had anything I could bring for cold lunch. The school wouldn't let me get food but I had awesome friends that fed me off their trays. I was still hungry but it was better than nothing. The kids should be allowed to eat.

It's a sad society we live in when we start having more compassion for criminals.

WOW. I would be so fucking pissed off...I'd probably go bitch crazy on whoever it was. (Because I've never done that! :D)

Seriously, though, whoever that lunch lady was needs to be fired.

I WAS however, impressed by that little boy who offered to share. That was the one part of this thing that had me going "Aw!". Somebody's raising their child the right way.

That's so sad :( I got free lunch until senior year and then I either brought a granola bar or didn't eat. I was basically starving myself to lose weight though

So they would rather waste the food then feed a hungry kid? :? wow

If the lady was following policy, I don't think she should be fired. She was doing her job, as fucked up as it is. What if she has her own kids to feed? Losing her job hurts them.

This is ridiculous. I remember in school when my account ran low they would tell ME but not my parents. Yea let's trust a child to remember to tell their parents they are out of lunch money.

This story is just awful. Those poor children.

It really sucked and I know people thought I just mooched (s/p?) a lot but my friends knew the story lol when I started working I paid for my own lunch in high school and I bought so much :( I was the girl in last hour pulling a cheeseburger out of her purse lol
