Or throw the food at her

Just wrong. Children should never be denied food. I think she should be fired, she failed to follow the regulation anyways to offer them a sandwich and milk. What a cold hearted b***h.

Dude, WTF?
Why couldn't they send a bill to the parents, rather than humiliate the kids and force them to go hungry for the rest of that school day?

I can't imagine a hungry, humiliated middle school child telling off an authority figure. Hunger and humiliation really wear a person down. And if it was a child who was use to going hungry for whatever reason, they probably felt resigned.

That is the worst part. How often do these kids go to bed hungry? That could have been their only meal of the day for all we know.

I could not make a child go hungry, even if I had to pay for every single f**king meal myself.

Me too. I could never allow a child to go hungry on my watch.

i do not think they should have had to throw their lunch away and had they been high school students i would have thought it was appropriate to not give them food b/c they have more control.
my brother will not send in money for his step daughter simply b/c they waste all their money on all things and figure the school will have to feed her no matter what. its sad b/c the little girl gets talked to at the school all the time b/c she doesn't have any money on her lunch account. i feel bad for her BUT its my brother's and her mom's fault. they should be responsible and pay for her lunch. i think the school started sending home a note saying if they didn't pay then they would serve her simply a peanut butter sandwich until their account was caught up

Does she not tell them that her parents refuse to give her money?

Yeah, I would go crazy if that were my child. Then again.....I am pretty responsible and I would never let my child go without lunch money. If you cannot afford it, pack a lunch....go to the school...ask for help. Do what you have to do for your child. But this was NOT the fault of the kids.....they should never have been denied lunch. That is cruel...

I don't think it's right but I get the mindset behind doing it. Some parents just don't give a f**k and need to have their cages rattled. There are school lunch programs in every state in almost every district. Hell, there's even many government sponsered lunch programs during the summer time. There is no good reason a child should be denied a lunch because they "can't pay". If you don't qualify for the lunch program and "can't pay" you need to get your priorities straight.

That's not the kid's fault though. Some parents are too proud to ask for help even if they need it. What happens to those kids? They should just go hungry every day because the parents don't give a shit?

Agreed. There were times I forgot to put money in Lily's account, and her school policy is that you can get 2 or 3 regular lunches but after that they get milk, a sandwich, and I think a granola bar or sliced fruit. Once the parents pay the owed money then it allows them to start over. Lily has had a few days of charging money because I just forget, it happens! But to throw out perfectly good food is asinine. To deny any food is asinine.

I did my school observations at a school that has so many disadvantaged kids that ALL lunches are free, even if the student is able to pay. I found that cool. The teacher I worked with said "For some kids here, this is the only food they will eat all day." The school sent home brown paper bags with food to eat over the weekend. Lily's school does the same... certain kids get weekend food so they dont go hungry. I support programs like that all the way! Kids shouldnt go hungry!

It makes me sick how many kids go hungry.
