How common is it for a doctor to augment with pit when a woman is having a vbac?

I have never heard of it. I thought generally they don't use pit due to increased chance for uterine rupture.

That's what I thought too but I have a friend who just attended a woman in labor having a vbac and they gave her pit, then they act all shocked when she ruptures. Part of me wonders if they were somehow trying to make a point... See vbacs are dangerous, don't do it. I'm probably overreacting, but it just seems like a really bad move on their part

She did rupture!? WTF.

VBAC's are at high risk for rupture in the first place, my clinical instructor for OB said she hates to be on VBAC's because they scare her and she has been there for 15 years.
Was it a small town hospital or a big one? I guess I could see an older doc over looking it but generally an older doc wont do a VBAC anyway.

I know right?!
It a weird kind of situation here, the town expanded very rapidly so we still have a smaller hospital for what is now a very large town, the infrastructure has been trying to catch up for a number if years now and the hospital should be next on the list. I'm not sure which doc make the call so I really couldn't comment about his age. I just thought, wow, even I know better than to try that, if she's really not progressing then suggest a repeat or let continue slowly.

Agreed. That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

My ob said she would only introduce pit if I was dilated, contracting and needed a little help. And only the smallest dosage. Even then I know better and will opt to go od before taking that chance.
