ER? *pic and poll* Kait. 3 kids; Iowa 2345 posts

Alexis ripped the place mat down off the cabinet about 30 minutes ago and a picture frame fell down off of it onto Ava's head. She is 9 months old. There is a cut on the back top of her head which bled for a few minutes and it bleeds if we touch around it.

She has stayed awake and sat up fine. Is there anything to look out for? She goes to bed at 10 which is in 15 minutes..should we let her sleep or keep her awake to keep an eye on her? I don't think the cut is stitch worthy but I honestly don't know... nothing like this has ever happened. I was more worried about a concussion because the frame was so heavy. It had no glass either, btw.

She has her 9 month checkup Monday.

WWYD?

I would take her even if they just do glue stitches that way it is clean and sealed.

eta I took my LO in for a cut on his forehead half the length of that. He got glue stitches.

ER, it looks deep enough for stitches.

Take her. You never know.

I'd take her just so they can at least clean it and seal it up so that it doesn't get infected and just to make sure everything is ok.

Take her in. I would want them to clean it and glue it shut. But like you, I'd be more concerned with a concussion. Good luck and I hope she is okay.

From the picture it does look deep enough for stitches. I'd take her in.

Is there anyway to test for a concussion? Would they do any tests?

Our ER is seriously terrible so we'll be driving one way to take her to the next closest... just wanted to make sure we should take her before driving that far. I don't want to "overreact."

I'm pretty sure they look at pupil dilation and stuff. If she has one, they'll figure it out.

It doesn't look bad because babies have thinner shin. Looks like it may need some glue. It will leave a much smaller scar that way.

I'd take her in.

I work in an er and I wouldn't take her as long as the bleeding stops. I would clean it real well. You can use peroxide but it might bleach her hair and you can usually find the glue at Walgreens. It doesn't look too bad to me but I saw a 16 month old with a broken eye socket from falling on the fireplace today.

Any child that young that had a head injury needs to be seen, doesn't matter how minor it could be. Just because you had to see that today doesn't mean everything is perfectly fine and OP should just "do it herself" by buying the stuff from walgreens.

We are waiting on SO's brother to get here to sit with our other 2 kiddos. Should be leaving for the ER in 10 minutes.

It stops bleeding then starts again and she won't stay awake now.
