Pathological liar? Dovahkiin 1 child; 1 angel baby; Kentucky 16776 posts

Have you ever known a person that seems to have an unbelievably dramatic life? I mean, actually unbelievable, as in you question whether they are exaggerating every aspect of their life or just plain lying to you.

I know this woman and it seems like everything that could go wrong in your life has happened to her. I'm talking molestation as a child, rape as an adult, miscarriages, abortions, abusive relationships, suicide attempts, commitment in psych wards... if we are talking about something negative, say a robbery or something, she will tell an elaborate story of how it has happened to her, too. I always kind of raised my eyebrows at her stories, but now I'm starting to think she is truly just a pathological liar. Today we were talking about a fatal car accident that happened a few days ago in our city, and she blurts out how hard it is to hear about those things because of her accident when she was a teen that killed someone.

Really now, now on top of everything else, you've also killed someone...

Maybe I am just being paranoid. Maybe all of these things have really happened to her. But my gut says otherwise. I think she has a serious lying problem.

Have you ever known someone likes this? How did you deal with it? :?

Yeah there is someone I know exactly like that. I kind of just let her believe her own lies. It's to the point she talks and I don't listen to a word she says.

Yep, one of my friends is like that, so I fuck with her. I will say things like, "Omg, remember that time when we did this and that, and then this happened!? You were there!" Usually she'll say, "Oh yeah, and then this and this and this happened!"

But that's because I'm a jerk...

Ugh, why do people do that? What is there to gain from it?

I know a few people like that, unfortunately. I just ignore them and kinda go, "Oh. Wow. That must have sucked." until they get the impression that I don't care and stop talking to me. I think some people just NEED the attention and make crap up.

Sometimes I think it's that they've made it such a habit that they can't help it anymore :/

My former supervisor used to be like that. Everyone knew she was lying about stuff but we'd all just nod and take her stories with a grain of salt. You can't really get through to people like that.

I am that person . I vent a little to much to Facebook , and every asepct of my life seems to get poured out on there . I dont have anyone I can talk to or vent to , so I use Facebook to do that . Im sure people probably say this about me , but I really could care-less because when I hold stuff in it makes things 10000 x's worse

Do you blatantly lie about aspects of your life just to get attention?

Honestly I used to be very suspicious of people who always seemed to have something going wrong in their lives until I started having a bunch of crazy hot mess shit start happening in my life. On another note I do know a bunch of people who just have off the wall crazy ass stories that I know for a fact are lies. Ive learnt not to judge unless you know for a fact something they are saying isnt true. But if you know that she is lying all the time then why even bother with her? Cut her loss and move on with your life thats what I do and let me tell you my life is alot calmer without all the crazy tales lol.

A person needs to lie to me only one time for me to assume just about everything they say is a lie, heh. I deal with it mostly by not associating with people like that. That's not always possible of course. My sister lies a lot and as a result our relationship is very strained. I just can't be close with people like that.
