I have court tomorrow morning to change my daughter's last name. I am so nervous, I don't know why! I doubt her dad will show up since he lives in another state, and I doubt he wrote a written objection, so I'm not sure why I'm so nervous about it. Just had to let it out!

Just be sure to dress well and have your paperwork in order. These two simple things go a LONG way in any courtroom whether you're there for a traffic ticket or a flat out physical assault, lol. I had traffic court a few years ago and my ticket was waved. I don't think it was 100% because I was dressed well and had all of my paperwork prepared and in a file but that had a lot to do with it. The judge even commended me for having everything together as if he was shocked. I myself was shocked by the fact that 1/2 the people called didn't even show up for their court date (and this is traffic court, mind you... which means all they would end up doing probably is pay a fine but instead they chose to miss court which results in a warrant for their arrest and more fines and probably some jail...). I was even more shocked by the appearance of some of the people there. It's like... Get your shit together, man. You're in freaking court trying to impress someone who is about to make an important decision for you. Don't let your underwear hang out and don't wear a shirt with holes in it the size of your fist. I was amazed by the stupidity. I didn't even mind sitting on the bench in the court room waiting my turn because I found everyone else there so fascinating... They were all so fucking ridiculous.

TMI but yeah, dress well and have your shit together... and good luck! Don't be nervous

Thanks! I already have clothes picked out for tomorrow. Black pants and a nice blouse. My nails are blue though. I'm thinking maybe I should take the blue off? They aren't chipped or nasty, but still. Haha. I do have all my papers ready to go as well.

I would take it off but that's just me. I try to be really conservative in situations like that.. Remove the flair and leave the basic necessities. IF he shows up you definitely want to appear the better parent even though this is just contesting a name change. It's amazing how much image can change a person's decision, especially a judge. It's a damn shame but it's a fact of life. Good luck!

Thanks. I feel the same way too. He lives in Kentucky. He hasnt been around in over two years. I really doubt this will make him come out here.

It's so normal to be nervous even though you know it'll go well! Hang in there!

I hope it goes well! I went to court twice to change Lily's name... the first time we were denied because the judge was a skank, but the second time it was approved.
