I smoke about 1-2 cigarettes a day. I did not smoke during my whole preganancy however picked it back up again after the baby. It's not an addiction just a stress reliever and a time to relax and get a few minutes to myself...
Since I'm breast feeding is it going to affect or harm my baby even though its only a couple a day? I try to nurse and then go have a cig that way I'm not smoking then feeding him right after. I change my clothes, scrub my hands, and brush my teeth/rinse with listerine.
I think its still dangerous to the baby even though its only a couple a day. I personally wouldn't do it. I would erase this post before you get a bunch of dumb b@&ches leaving rude comments. I don't judge you just letting you know I think its still bad because it can pass nicotine and chemicals to the baby.

You're still passing nicotine on to baby- which leads to irritability, higher rate of colicky infants and even irratibility in childhood. The smoke/residue lingers even when you clean-up... children of smokers are more likely than others to have respiratory problems later on like asthma, bronchitis, etc. And of course, 'they' claim it's linked to a higher incidence of SIDS as well.
And if it's really only 1-2 a day, it can't be THAT much of a habit, you know? I don't know if I'm wording it the right way. Like I'm a horrible stress eater. When I'm emotional, I'm constantly eating, and it's hard for me to eat. So I think of a stress smoker as not a person that just needs 1-2 a day, I think of someone who has 1-2 a day someone who just does it with a friend.

I am not a smoker, but have heard if you are going to smoke- it is still better to breastfeed than formula feed. So if you can't give up the smokes, it doesn't mean you should wean.
Of course it's best not to, but if you're absolutely going to then do it right after you feed the baby and wait an hour or two until you feed baby again.
I would also suggest finding new ways to relieve stress if it's something you quit before, you've obviously tried to get away from it.
Also, I would buy the organic' cigarettes. I think they are American Spirit. They are not healthier. Smoking is bad for your health, but at least there aren't a bunch of added toxins.
I'm so against formula and I love breast feeding and the bond with my baby but when I smoke a cigarette it's like I get to be alone and back to normal again.. Idk it's hard to explain:/
Forgive me for saying, but it sounds ridiculous for you to say you're against formula... and in the same breath saying you're going to go ahead and put toxins into your baby. I don't mean to lay into you, especially because I gave my kids formula and breast milk. It just seems like it's an easy answer here...
Where do you go when you smoke? Like, are you in a house, apt? Do you go out on a deck, or down the street, or what? Maybe find something else you can do in the time? Like don't tell whoever is watching the baby in that time that you're quitting, just do it. For you. That way you still can excuse yourself and get that time... you know?
