Question about 1st baby's weight... Asacia Norris 1 child; Fort Wayne, Indiana 301 posts

Hi there---just have a couple questions. Me being a 1st time Mommy I'm sure pretty sure I'm just worrying too much, but I still want to ask about formula and weight gain and making sure he sounds normal. So, with that said, my son was born weighing in at 8 lbs 8 oz and 20.5 inches long. The following week at one week old at his follow up pediatrician appointment he weighed 8 lbs 6 oz, so he almost had gained it all back. Now...at 4 weeks old he weighs 10 lbs 5 oz and is 23 inches long. Also, he is eating 5 oz bottles and eats about every 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Is this too much for him to be eating? Or too often?? Or does it sound like he is gaining weight too fast??? Just looking to ease my concerns. We don't have another pediatrician appointment until he is 2 months old.

He's fine :) Asher was born 8.4 and at a month was just over 10lbs.

Do you think it's normal for him to still eat every 3 hours? He will sleep for about 3 or 3 1/2 hours at a time and every time he wakes up it's like he is hungry, so I make him a bottle. I spits out the paci and starts sucking on his hands like he wants a bottle so I make one.

sounds normal. My friend's little girl was eating every 3-3 1/2 hours at one month, so that's about normal. That's how my son did, too.

I think its feed on demand when they are that small. Let them take what they need he'll stop when hes full..Mine ate milk 2 hourly until he was fully weaned onto solids. He 7 + months now. born 6 15 and at 6 months was 19 10.
Sounds fine to me.

edit i cant remember exactly how many oz back then but was on 5oz every 2 hours pretty early on.

around a month, that may be a little much, but I'm sure he'll be fine as long as it's not making him sick.

Sounds fine to me! Asher is exclusively breastfed and almost 6 1/2 months old and still nurses every 3-4 hours.

Okay...DS was breastfed until 2 weeks and I lost all my milk. :( So now he is on formula.
