How did other mamas do it? When I was taking metformin the weight was coming right off but since I had to stop taking metformin it hasn't been happening like that. I so badly want to start taking metformin again but I am concerned about the effect it will have on my kidneys. I was thinking of taking it again but sticking with the lower dosage this time rather than upping it like my doc wants me to do. What do y'all think about that?

Following a low carb, high protein diet. Few processed and added sugars.

Use sea salt instead of regular salt.

I don't use salt in my food and I don't really eat processed foods anymore. I keep Triscuits in my house for the occasional snacking urge but that is really it. For breakfast I have a shake that is Whey protien or I have eggs or I have granola and nuts along with a glass of milk. Lunch is either a turkey sandwich or a salad and dinner is just whatever. (Usually a meat, a salad or some kind of veggie and then some kind of starch.)

I was told by my doctor to eat very little carbs, as little as I can get away with. And to eat meat for every meal.

Eat on a low glycemic scale, as well. No artificial sweeteners. No caffeine.

My RE recommends following the south beach diet. So far as exercise goes, I had the best/quickest loss while doing the couch to 5k program. I *hate hate hate* running, but it was SUPER effective, so effective in fact that I ended up pregnant even though I had an IUD and a full round of fertility tests scheduled because my progesterone was low. I do take 2000 mg Metformin a day though, my doctor just checks up on my kidney and liver twice a year to make sure everything's ok.

My doc had me taking 4000 so I was thinking of lowering it to 2000 and trying again. I already have bad kidneys so I just don't want to make them worse by taking these meds.

Oh wow, 4000 is high, I've never heard of that high of a dose, I think you'd be good with 2000, good luck!

Do you keep a food journal? I highly suggest it. I notice a lot of starchy carbs in the foods that you posted. When you go for carbs you want to stick to complex carbs.

Make sure you eat something within 30 minutes of getting up and then try to break your meals up into 5-6 small meals a day. Make sure you don't skip and you are eating enough calories. Drink at least 6 non caffinated beverages a day. All of this will help improve you metabolism.

Sea salt has no more nutritional advantage over table salt at all. It's more corse so you make use less but that's about it.

Also find an activity that you like and stick with it. 30 minutes of activity a day can do wonders for your body and spirit!
