Strep breath? Elle With FOUR! 4 kids; Wichita, KS, United States 18964 posts

I know strep can make your breath smell really bad, but does it taste bad, too?

I woke up today with a sore throat, fever, and an awful headache, and no matter how many times I brush my teeth, my mouth smells like ass. I can't smell my own breath, but I can taste it. And it's not a good taste. It's like....half metallic, half old meat. Obviously, if it's strep, I need to start on antibiotics like, asap, but at the same time I don't want to go to the doctor if I don't need to. I know there is a virus going around, so obviously if it's more in line with that, antibiotics won't do anything.

I feel like I live at the doctors lately....

I've had strep and bronchitis and not had that problem. Have you tried flossing your teeth and brushing your tongue?

I had a horrible taste in my mouth with the last strep I had, it was disgusting.

I had a sinus infection last week with all those symptoms, especially the bad breath. Finally had to go get an antibiotic.

Mouth wash is part of washing your teeth, IMO. Which has been done 6 or 7 times already today. Considering I have above-average oral hygiene normally, and way above normal today, I think it's a pretty safe bet that it's not the issue.

I hadn't thought of it being a sinus infection! I don't have the pressure I usually get with sinus issues, but it's definitely the right time of year.

When I had strep really bad like pus balls in my throat bad I had a bad metallic taste in my mouth. I also had that with a sinus infection.
I would go just in case but that's just me.
