My (somewhat basic) labor story! I♥RYLEIGH 49 kids; Windsor, Ontario 10437 posts

On Wednesday, April 6th I went into the hospital to get a cervical foley placed in my cervix to help soften and dilate. I was told I would be getting a call the next morning to come in for my induction and this extremely uncomfortable device would fall out on it's own at night and could possibly even break my water! I was so over the moon that I would be meeting my daughter so soon. It never crossed my mind that it would take so much longer.
The wait absolutely killed me. The next day came and OB triage notified me that L&D was PACKED and I wouldn't be going in until after lunch time. That was alright. I waited and waited for a phone call and finally, at 7pm, they called and said I would not be going in until Friday morning. I was devastated. I waited all day long, had my bags packed, had Ry's bags packed, all to just be turned away. I was not impressed one bit!
Friday morning came around and I did not receive a call so I phoned L&D hoping maybe they just forgot. NOPE! I wouldn't be going in until LATE that evening. They couldn't even give me an estimated time, so I waited by the phone ever so NOT patiently.... and then midnight struck! "Shelby, we're ready for you in L&D. Come down to admitting and head upstairs to the second floor."
My heart started pounding and I thanked the nurse profusely! I was so excited. I knew this was finally it. We gathered our belongings and rushed to the hospital.
I got there and we started pitocin at 1:10 am. The contractions were mild and irregular at first, weren't very painful and I was handling them very well. Then they REALLY started coming. I didn't take any classes to teach me how to breathe or how to deal with the pain so I had to figure it all out myself. I made it to 4.5 cm before getting an epidural at around 5:30 am.
I dilated 2 cm every 2 hours or so for the next couple hours. I went from a 6 to a 9 in 1 hour, then was at a 10 in about 45 minutes after that. By 1pm I was ready to push but the Dr's had me wait until 2:30pm to have mother nature and gravity help me out by bringing baby down more. I wasn't upset by this because time seemed to be FLYING!
Finally, at around 2:40 pm I began pushing. It came so natural that I knew exactly what I was doing without even having to be coached. I had my SO and my momma bear in the room with me and I am so glad she was there. It took everything she had to come and it meant more to me than she will ever know. I pushed and pushed and pushed when finally, on April 6th, 2013 at 3:11pm my beautiful daughter Ryleigh Vivian Tayler was born. She was born weighing 7lb 8oz and 19 1/4" long.
I didn't cry, I didn't say anything to anyone. She just laid quietly on my chest and we stared at each other while she held my finger. I wasn't even worried that she wasn't crying because I knew she was fine. I was in shock that I made such a beautiful little lady and I couldn't be more thankful than to be able to call her my own and I never have to give her back!
In the end my labor was 14 hours and I pushed for 30 mins. I only received one stitch and everything else was so amazing. I'd give birth a million times over again if it was always this easy!

Sounds like everything went wonderful! :) That's awesome that you only had to get one stitch, too.

I had a student with my first and she was SO nervous. The doctor finally stepped in and was like, "We'll have this baby with the next contraction."

The student who helped my Dr was awesome! He explained everything really well and I felt comfortable with him delivering. At first I said no students in the room but then they will never learn, right? So I gave in last minute
