Child suicide... Chick+6.5! Due October 18; 6 kids; 1 angel baby; Colorado 7766 posts

I know it's not extremely common for a preteen to commit suicide. That being said, I have an 11 year old son who has not only attempted suicide and been hospitalized for depression, but he still struggles with suicidal thoughts. It has honestly been hell finding any doctor/psychiatrist who will treat him. Nobody wants to take on an "at risk" child. He is on meds and sees a psychiatrist once a week. Yesterday I was looking through his facebook messages (he knows I have access to them), and I saw a message he sent his girlfriend saying "I feel like I'm better off dead". I immediately called the school to have the counselor make sure he was safe and then contacted his psychiatrist. I am beyond annoyed that they're both acting like this is just attention seeking behavior. My insurance sucks and I can't have him hospitalized without a referral. Only nobody think he needs it... I don't know what to do! I understand I am not a doctor, but how the hell do they know he's NOT going to do it?! I'm terrified every day. I worry constantly and have this fear that one day I'll find him... I guess I need advice, if anyone has any. :(

That is SOOO hard. I am really sorry that doctors are not taking you seriously. I wish I had some advice for you. I would keep calling and calling doctors. I have never heard of an 11 year old seeking attention with suicide. Not sure I even knew what suicide was at 11.

Can I ask where in CO you are?

I used to live in the Springs and i know two great groups who might be able to help if you live relatively close to there.

ld I use to have depression as a child. All they did was send me t a counselor once a week. Didn't help me very much. When I would get depressed it would just hit me like a feeling. It felt normal. I cant explain it. It was the same as being uexcited or angry. But just out of nowhere and woout last about 15 mins

The last hospital he was in cost $1500 per day with no insurance. Even with insurance I owe them $2000, and I make $100 a month payments. No way could I afford $1500 per day...

His biological dad is a pos. He comes in and out of his life but what set it off is he was just sentenced to 6 years in prison. My son is having a really hard time with it. He also gets bullied at school. :(

I would also do this. I'm sure you're doing everything you can possibly think of, and I'm sure you've tried so many things. I'm truly sorry, OP.
