Just curious ladies. What would you do/think in the event of your grade school child bringing this home?

And now, for option 3:

I wouldn't be too happy.

I'd be pissed. It is their job to HELP educate my child, not push their political agenda on him.

:!: And I'm guessing this is about gun control? I feel way safer when it's not just the criminals and government who are armed.

My understanding is that this was found months after the fact, and the father never contacted the teacher to ask her side of the story. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't automatically trust the word of a kid MONTHS after the fact without even asking the teacher.

If it WAS true, then yes, I'd be upset. Not detrimental, my child was abused upset, but I'd make an issue about them not pushing political beliefs onto kids.

I know right? lol It bothers me no matter which side of the spectrum one may be on b/c they have no right to push specific agendas on elementary aged children!

I agree. I don't understand why an elementary school aged child would even be learning about politics to begin with. Unless things have changed since I was in school I didn't learn about politics until my freshman year.

The teacher would be explaining to my kid why it is important to have rights and that our constitution protects our rights from people like her.

The story I read about it was that a speaker came in to teach the kids about the bill of rights, and that after that speaker left they were told to copy that down. Again, they told the parent this months after the paper was done, when it was located in his backpack with other work.

It was just something I stumbled across.. I wasn't implying true or false to the story I was just curious to know how you ladies would feel if your child did in fact bring something like this home.

If someone would like to take the photo and edit out all of the contact information, I would be more than happy to put the edited one up in the OP.

Right, I was explaining my opinion. It's neither agree or disagree, because the facts in that case aren't for sure.

For all we know the kid misunderstood. Maybe they were writing about IF you believe that, and the child thought they were supposed to write it exactly like that. Maybe they were talking about how some people believe that. Again, we are talking about something that occurred months before and the father didn't even contact the teacher let alone the school district.

If the situation occurred as stated here, I would be unhappy. The statement conveys no facts and the fact that it was dictated means there was no critical thinking involved. I'm an avid supporter of gun control and have no desire to ban all firearms, by the way.

Opinions are always welcome in my threads. I was just letting you know I didn't care whether or not it was true or false.

Yes, I do agree with you that there is always more to it..

But after reading what you had to say.. I will admit this. When stating my opinion, I did state it while losing site of the fact that yes, school work in a lot of cases can be misunderstood.

So, if no one mind's I would like to change my original answer.

I would like to say, I would be making a trip to the school and request the teacher explain the assignment to me. If it was pushing a political agenda onto my child (Which is what the picture suggests) Than yes, I would in fact stick with what I originally said I would do.
