I'm going to the doctor today for my six week check up (which is cake) and getting something called Implanon for birth control because we don't have enough money right now for the hubby's surgery (Implanon is completely covered on our insurance). Well I was very curious about how it worked and all so I did my homework. Apparently it is injected just under the skin on the arm and lasts for three years. The size of this thing amazed me... in my eyes it's pretty big for something that has to be injected. This thing doesn't absorb in the body... got to have it removed via scalpel and forceps after three years or else I could get sick. I have no problem getting it... I'm just nervous as hell. Has anyone else on here did the Implanon?

Everyone I know who has it HATES it with a passion. And half of them have gotten pregnant.

I have the next gen version of it called nexplanon or implanon NXT. I love it. I've had it since nov last year and get it removed in nov 2014. So far so good. No period, no break outs, no mood swings, no weight gain. And increased sex drive (which I don't take advantage of and it's driving me nuts lol).

Had it twice for two years each time. I hated those four years. I bled constantly. I'm on the pill now, I finally have normal periods woo!

It wasn't at all bad... they gave me the Nexplanon. No one told me that the area gets numbed before they do the injection.
