Thomas was a total bitch! OMG I hated making him!

I like making figures just not ones that have to look exactly like a specific character KWIM? I made a lion and a baby face a month ago and I enjoyed making those.

I think my first cake was just beginners luck because they got really not good for awhile LMAO!

The best way I've found is to call around to bakeries in your area and find out what the going rate there is. You can ask them if they have a per serving price or like what they charge for a 12' round cake. That will give you an idea of what people will pay, then depending on your skill level you figure out what you want to charge. When I was first starting I did cakes for free, then as I got better I only charged for the supplies, then I got better and started charging done for my time and now I charge pretty close to what the bakeries in my area do.

that's exactly what I did too! well I made money through the business I worked for, but the cakes I did on my own i was charging next to nothing for the first year-ish.
now I'm charging per serving depending on the difficulty level of the cake.
I still do the pretty cheap for the time that i put into them, but I'm at least making some kind of profit now haha

my old boss told me if I don't spend at least 6-8 hours on a cake it's not good enough to sell to a customer. so i have always spent a long time on them and now it feels nice to not do all of that for free lol

you know I have just thought about looking for a cake for my daughter's birthday next month, where in Ontario are you? If you were close by, I would love to see what you could possibly make for her.

Exactly like me. I spend about a day on each cake and although I'm not getting rich doing it, it is a nice supplement to my income and with each cake I get a little better and feel more confident that I can charge a little more next time.
