The constitution certainly does not say that....
Anyways, back to the question at hand. What do you think about the sell of items like pressure cookers? Should we regulate them?

No that isn't what it says. But obviously you only get your info from the main stream media and have never actually bought a gun at a gun show, or you would know that is not how it works at all.

Idk how it makes sense to ban pressure cookers, nails, etc. Although I strongly believe in owning guns, I don't see how stronger background checks and smaller magazines could ever be compared to nails or wood planks. How do you regulate those?

Ding ding ding! I'm SO sick of this debate.

What I really think we need is more help for people with mental illness. Maybe intervene before this stuff happens. Obviously we can't stop everything, but I'm sure if we paid more attention some stuff could be stopped

Right. You can regulate every item I purchase (and I'm not even very crafty!) but I'm sure I could figure out to harm someone with something, anything if I wanted to...

Even if they were banned, which I don't see happening because we need most of those things, someone will always find another way or another set of materials.

It just seems like a slippery slope to me!

Because the sole purpose of a gun is to shoot things/people/animals.

The items commonly used in bomb making have other purposes, as do knives. That's a bit silly.

Also, just my opinion, but most of the people who I know that own guns are the exact people who don't NEED them. The kind who go waving them around every time they get pissed off. If you want to own one for protection or hunting that is fine and dandy with me, but way too many people confuse the right to own a gun with the right to shoot whoever the hell they want. (This might not be the case everywhere, I live around a bunch of rednecks.)

If more than one idiot was attempting to harm you or your family (ie: A gang) a hand gun would do little to no good. If there was a natural disaster (Like Hurricane Sandy) and there were gangs looting, and I was standing on the front porch with an assault rifle, I am pretty sure they would change their minds about trying to come and steal my families source of food...

Sarcasm. So there's never been an instance of a person buying a gun anywhere in the country at a gun show without proper ID, background check, registration, and trackable payment method?? *whew* what a relief! I have a close personal friend who bought a gun in 2005 from a licensed dealer and I know for a fact that they did not do a background check OR a reference check. I know this because it was a joke how he had a drug charge on his record (making him ineligible for a gun permit) and his references were a friend and my SO, and neither were contacted. Not only did he get his gun, he ALSO got a concealed weapons permit. Even better, he's not even an american citizen. Yeah, there are issues with gun control. And they SHOULD be addressed. They should have been addressed LONG before Sandy Hook.

That's a pretty big statement.
To shoot is more of an action than a purpose.
Guns are to protect us, from intruders, from tyranny, from people who wish to harm us...
Guns are used to hunt, to sustain life.
And guns are even for game.

Sometimes, people use guns to commit crime. That is unfortunate.

Just like, sometimes, people use cough meds and household items to manufacture methamphetamines. Surely it's not the intended purpose, but they "break the rules" and do it anyways.

And then of course sometimes some sick, twisted person, uses a pressure cooker to kill innocent people. Surely that's not what that was created for.
