Quoting Thr3e Little Birds:" No that isn't what it says. But obviously you only get your info from the main stream media and have never actually bought a gun at a gun show, or you would know that is not how it works at all."

Sarcasm. So there's never been an instance of a person buying a gun anywhere in the country at a gun show without proper ID, background check, registration, and trackable payment method?? *whew* what a relief! I have a close personal friend who bought a gun in 2005 from a licensed dealer and I know for a fact that they did not do a background check OR a reference check. I know this because it was a joke how he had a drug charge on his record (making him ineligible for a gun permit) and his references were a friend and my SO, and neither were contacted. Not only did he get his gun, he ALSO got a concealed weapons permit. Even better, he's not even an american citizen. Yeah, there are issues with gun control. And they SHOULD be addressed. They should have been addressed LONG before Sandy Hook.

That's a pretty big statement.
To shoot is more of an action than a purpose.
Guns are to protect us, from intruders, from tyranny, from people who wish to harm us...
Guns are used to hunt, to sustain life.
And guns are even for game.

Sometimes, people use guns to commit crime. That is unfortunate.

Just like, sometimes, people use cough meds and household items to manufacture methamphetamines. Surely it's not the intended purpose, but they "break the rules" and do it anyways.

And then of course sometimes some sick, twisted person, uses a pressure cooker to kill innocent people. Surely that's not what that was created for.

Well then he did it ILLEGALLY because that is not the law. Again, law abiding citezens are the only ones who obey laws...you just made the point for me. That licensed dealer as well as your friend commited a crime.

If you are worried about the illegal sell of weapons, you should take your attention off of the few people who slip through the cracks at the gun show and put it on our borders.
There's a cause to keep you busy!

Spoons and forks are causing obesity and should be banned.

How did my friend commit a crime? He went to a licensed gun shop, filled out the proper paperwork, obtained the proper permits, and is a licensed gun owner. Agree, the gun shop owner was negligent. And I doubt this case is uncommon.
I don't see how asking that the laws be followed, or loop holes be closed is a threat to 2nd amendment rights. I do believe in the 2nd amendment. We should have a right to bear arms. But there should be a process, and it should be enforced. Common sense gun laws are not a threat to the 2nd amendment. And no one has threatened to go door to door taking everyone's guns.

This! I worked for mental health in the county I live in. We have a 24/7 open door policy. I have had to help people on line who wanted to kill themselves. NOT FUN! Many that come in are court ordered. They are embarrassed. No one wants to admit they have mental problems or having issues dealing with life. There are tons of places to go to get FREE help, many CHOOSE not to use it

You stated that they had drug charges on their record and could not legally own a gun. Therefore they were commiting a crime by purchasing one. Honestly though, I find it funny that you have such an amazing story and that you "joked" about it with your friend, yet you are for gun control?! Sounds like a story to me...

Not the same as a gun show, but I went to the Jockey Lot Saturday and there were several people selling guns at their tables. I asked one old guy what I needed to do to get one of the guns he was selling. He said I only needed the money he wanted.
I didn't buy one. The Jockey Lot was massively overcrowded and I didn't feel like carrying a pistol through the crowd all day.

Some of the vendors even had some high powered guns for sale too. It was crazy how easy it was to get one.

Just also wanted to point out that it is not possible for him to get a concealed weapons permit if he is not a US citizen. Unless he forged ID, which again is illegal. Next time you make up a story to try and improve your side of the argument, do some research. Just some advice.

Thats not true in my state. Background checks are done at gunshows and stores.
