I know it's a depression medication but do you think it would help with social anxiety too?

I was on Celexa, I think it works well as an antidepressant but not sure about the social anxiety part...I would think maybe xanax or something that is made for anxiety would work better. Talk to you doctor and see what they suggest. I can say this though, celexa is a b***h to get off of...withdrawals are horrible.

It only worked for me while I was breastfeeding. As soon as I had to stop the depression got worse.

I think it's cause of how I had to stop though (Got really sick, gall bladder and pancreatitis). I hated the fact that I couldn't nurse anymore and blamed myself.

I've never had social anxiety so I'm not sure if it would help there. I guess if you are depressed it will make you feel better and you will be more confident in social environments?

I wonder how anxiety meds work? Do they make you feel "high", relaxed, or what? I have a bit of social anxiety but have never looked in to meds.

That's how DH suggested it might work. I'm hoping. I'm awful in public situations

I guess it's worth a shot.. But you definitely shouldn't be self medicating. A doctor should be monitoring you while you are on the medication.

My doctor didn't "monitor" me when I was on it before anyway.
Unless saying "How do you feel? Good? K. Here's your rx" as legitimate monitoring.

It's the only thing that helps with my depression and I never had any negative side effects. I'll be fine.

My DH takes Xanax for anxiety, it's a life saver. He gets uncomfortable in social situations and the Xanax calms him. It is an addictive, controlled substance so it can be a little hard getting a doctor to prescribe it but it works for social anxiety. My husband and I would not be able to take vacations if it weren't for the Xanax. It has also helped him a lot through my pregnancy, he gets so overwhelmed at doctors appointments and such.

My husband always feel relaxed and calm when he takes his xanax, I have actually taken one or two from him before I was pregnant and they just make you super relaxed, always helped me sleep.

I was prescribed Celexa for anxiety, but I never took it. I read all the side effects and couldn't bring myself to put it into my body because I was paranoid I would die (thanks anxiety) and then I found out I was pregnant with DD a few weeks later.. so I'm glad I never took it.
