I had a suspicion yesterday that my DS may have a cold. Today I am 100% sure of it. He is congested, his nose is..yuck lol. He has a wicked cough :( What are some things I can do for him to make him feel better? I cant get him any medicine until his dad comes home around 4ish. He has all the money and the only key into the building. Also what is safe to give him for a cold? He is 6 1/2 months.

Suction his nose. Saline spray works wonders. Take him with you into a steamy bathroom if he's really stuffy and needs temporary relief to drink a bottle/nurse. You can give Tylenol if he's in pain but no cold meds are safe for that young.

tylenol to keep the fever down, saline drops and nasal aspirator to clean his nose out,vaporizer...can't do much else or give him much else at 6 1/2 months, unless you take him to the dr and they prescribe some meds to help clear the cold up.

hang in there,it won't be fun but he'll get better.

No meds can clear up a cold. It is a virus.

My baby had a cold at 3 months and there's not a lot of medicine's you can give them unfortunately. I took him into the shower with me, used a humidifier, saline solution, and a nasal aspirator. Make sure your baby keeps formula or breast milk down. I would try feeding him right after you clean out his nose.

Ok thank you ladies. I wasn't sure if there was something I could give him at his age or not. I will def take him into a steamy bathroom and try to attempt to get his nose cleaned out. That hasn't gone well so far. Another silly question but do colds in babies usually last as long as they do in adults? So far the timeline for this has been Monday he was grumpy and not himself, Tuesday was the same as Monday. Yesterday I noticed he was getting congested and began to think maybe he has a cold. And then today.

It can last as long as adults or longer. It just depends on how the virus is going to affect his body.

Meds can help colds go away...i know because my daughter has had colds and her dr has prescribed meds for her that helped.

honestly i was merely trying to help. I didn't need corrected. The cold itself may be a virus and meds might not clear it up but they do help esp with the congestion.

Medicines might help symptoms go away temporarily (like congestion) but they will not make your body get rid of the cold faster. That's all in sayin. I wasn't trying to make you look dumb, just wanted OP to have correct information.

Thank you all for any info :) We took him into a steamy bathroom a few times yesterday to help him out. And we are just giving him lots and lots of cuddles. He is more active today but he is still sick :( Hopefully this isn't a lingering 2 week cold
