A question about Cambodia. Rafael's Mommy ♥ Texas 764 posts

I'm not an expert on this by any means but I read a couple books about Cambodia...the Khmer were the group that forced everyone to go to camps and killed thousands of people, right? They were the bad guys?

Because I recently met a bunch of Cambodians that always come to the club I strip at, and they're always saying stuff like "Khmer pride" and they recently celebrated the Khmer new years, I think. But...the Khmer were bad people right? I'm so confused. Why would they be celebrating a group of people that were murderers and forced children to be soldiers? I thought it would be rude to ask them directly, lol.

Quoting ⚓ Sarah ⚓:" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_people They're actually very peaceful. And one of the oldest "groups""

Oh! So they're just the people of Cambodia? I thought that was the name for the specific evil political group. That makes more sense.

The bad guys were the khumer rouge ... or red cambodians ... the Cambodian version of the Viet Kong.

You're thinking the Khmer Rouge.

I went to Cambodia many years ago. It's still an absolute mess but the people are lovely and the country itself is beautiful.

It's the Khmer Rouge who were the bad guys.

Just out of curiosity, is that war part of the curriculum in school in America? We learn it in high school, but we don't learn any history about America at all.

I don't think so. Maybe in world history, but I only took American History and Western Civilization.

We learned about it but I also went to a private school with an extra packed curriculum.
