Her names Waris Dirie. I liked the film, I think we need more films like that to be made public . I worked with a NGO in Kenya that was trying to stop infibulation. In this community it was teenagers who had it done, they have to be silent while it's done otherwise they are renamed "unwanted/ cast off". The girls/ women often don't understand exactly what will happen to them, even women who had it done don't really know so this sort of graphic film helps them understand.

It also freaks the men out, they hold teh power and help it be carried out but they have no role (in general) in the actual procedure so they don't really understand what the women go through so it helps them understand why it should be stopped.

I hate hearing boy and all teh other terms. I found Django unchained awkward because of that. I realise though that during slavery they weren't exactly nice and politically correct but still it's not nice. My SO, who is black, found it funny but I think it's because the equivalent of the N word isn't really used here so it was the shock factor. There are other terms but they are not really stigmatising or necessarily racist, depending more on context. He wanted to lnow if Americans always talked like that  lol

It started because a group of black guys referred to a white female friend of mine as a 'mud shark' which was basically calling her a 'n***** lover' because they were on bad terms with her boyfriend. I told them they should have better respect & leave racism out of it so whenever they walked by me(not often) they would call me that

i was raised with the mentality that you respect your elders no matter what race or religion. and i believe no matter their sexual orientation either (though some of my family don't agree...)

yep. you can't change your body but it's up to you how your mind is. and raising only goes so far imo. once you become an adult and learn about the real world, there's no reason for narrow minded bullshit.
