Joint bank account? Wildflower 🌈 1 child; Oregon 7065 posts

If you are in a serious relationship and live together, do you have a joint bank account??

As soon as SO and I moved in together, after we were together for about a year, we got a joint account. We've always mutually agreed that "what's yours is mine and what's mine is yours" even before we had LO.
Is that weird? My family thinks its weird.
Before we had LO, he was the only one working because I was in school. And we still had a joint account. Then when I was pregnant I stopped going to school because I had hyperemesis. Then when LO was born I was a SAHM most of the time.
BUT if i was the only one working, and he stayed at home, I would still be fine with having a joint account and sharing money.
How is that weird?? Am I the only one that thinks that is normal? Lol

We've had a joint account since we moved in together.... We weren't married and I didn't work. If your serious enough to live together you are serious enough to have a joint bank account.

Me and my ex husband never had a joint account but we always paid bills together and pretty much shared the money. But I didn't want to be responsible if he overdrew his account and such

When we first moved in together we had separate accounts... it only caused a head ache with trying to switch balances to cover one another and to pay all the bills together... so we got a joint account. Had zero issues ever since and we've been together about 3 years physically (we dated online) before getting married.

We have a check book where we write down what we spend and "balance" it together once a week so we're on the same page. It's helped us to never over draft. :)

We've been together for 3.5 years, lived together for 3, have a ten month old, and don't have a joint bank account.

We are about to add my name to our account because Im overly paranoid that if something happens to my husband I wont have the money to take care of the kids.

Is your SO getting to stay in the US?

I'm not sure what we'll do yet, I'm not sold on the idea of joint accounts, perhaps we'll just pick bills to pay from each account.

We have a joint account. I have a small account for my job, but 95% of our money is in our joint account. It works very well for us.
